Private Equity Firms Buying Companies With $5M to $15M of EBITDA

230 firms profiled · Updated October 26, 2026

Companies with $5 million to $15 million of EBITDA are large enough to attract established private equity funds as well as the platforms those funds already own. At this size a business is usually treated as a platform: a foundation the buyer will build on with further acquisitions and new investment.

Buyers expect a real management team, reliable monthly reporting and financials that will pass a quality of earnings review without major adjustments. They will study customer concentration, the durability of margins, how much capital the business needs to grow, and whether the company can absorb acquisitions of its own. Strong second-tier managers are often as important to them as the CEO.

Because more buyers compete at this size, processes are often more structured, with several firms submitting indications of interest before one is chosen to complete diligence. Deals commonly combine cash at closing with rolled equity, and leadership incentive plans for the management team are standard.

For an owner, the decision is often about partnership as much as price. It is worth asking each buyer how long it usually holds a company, how it has supported growth at its other platforms, what role it expects you to play, and how it has treated founders and employees in past deals. The profiles below show what each firm has bought and sold recently.

Owners at this size should also think about the management team's stake. Buyers usually want the people who will run the business to own part of it, through rolled equity or an incentive plan. Talking with key managers before a process starts, and understanding what they want from a sale, avoids a situation where the buyer's view of the team differs from the owner's.

Greymont is paid by buyers, never by owners. We can help you understand which of these firms fit your sector, your plans and your timeline.
