What Coltala Holdings buys
Coltala Holdings is a Fort Worth holding company, formed in 2018 by former company operators, that buys majority control of founder and family-owned businesses in Texas and nearby states. It looks for essential service companies in three groups: real estate services (its list covers property management, engineering and inspection, HVAC, elevators, fire protection and water treatment, among others), aerospace repair and component machining, and home health, hospice and therapy. It says it has put more than $500 million to work so far.
The stated target is a stable US business with $2 million to $10 million of EBITDA, recurring revenue, gross margins of 30 percent or more and EBITDA margins of 10 percent or more, in a deal of $10 million to $100 million. As a holding company it sets no fixed holding period. In practice it brings partners into its deals: Trive Capital co-owns Choice Health at Home, and Gladstone Capital supplied mezzanine debt and equity for the 2025 purchase of Alsay, which started a new water group.

Greymont’s take
How Coltala Holdings fits a seller
Coltala fits a Texas owner of a steady service business who wants to sell control to a buyer that stresses legacy and is not tied to a fund deadline. Its leaders come from operating jobs, and they install their own management playbook, the Coltala Enterprise System, in each company. Sellers' teams have tended to stay: at Pond Robinson the two principals kept running the firm and the founder stayed on as an advisor and investor.
Coltala has brought outside lenders and co-investors into each deal it has announced, so an owner should ask early who is funding the purchase and how much of the price rests on senior or mezzanine debt. It is also worth asking what having no set holding period means in practice, and whether any rolled equity would sit next to a partner, such as Trive Capital, that has its own exit timeline.
Questions owners ask
What size company does Coltala buy?
Its investment criteria call for stable US businesses with $2 million to $10 million of EBITDA, gross margins of 30 percent or more and EBITDA margins of 10 percent or more, in transactions of $10 million to $100 million.
Does Coltala buy property management companies?
Property management is on its list of target real estate services, along with engineering, inspection, HVAC, elevator, fire protection and water treatment businesses. Its current real estate holding is Pond Robinson & Associates, a Dallas property due diligence engineering firm, not a property manager.
Where does Coltala invest?
Its criteria focus on founder and family-owned businesses in Texas and the surrounding region. Its holdings are based in Texas, though its August 2025 Alsay release said its companies operate in more than 20 states.
Does Coltala buy 100 percent of a company?
It seeks majority control and often shares ownership with partners. Trive Capital has co-owned Choice Health at Home with Coltala since 2020, and Gladstone Capital made an equity co-investment alongside Coltala in the August 2025 Alsay deal.
