What Align Capital Partners buys

Align Capital Partners is a lower middle market buyout firm with investment teams in Cleveland and Dallas. It takes control of North American companies earning about $3 million to $15 million of EBITDA, usually investing $25 million to $75 million of equity at enterprise values up to roughly $150 million. It wants recurring demand, a defensible niche, gross margins of 30% or more and EBITDA margins of at least 15%. Its four target areas are professional business services, tech-enabled services (IT services is a named sub-sector), industrial services such as facility, safety and environmental work, and specialty manufacturing and distribution.

Add-ons are central to how it grows companies. Align says it has backed 40 platforms and closed 145 add-ons since 2016, and in June 2026 it closed Fund IV at $770 million alongside a $375 million fund that co-invests with independent sponsors. A company below $3 million of EBITDA is most likely to fit as an add-on to a current platform, such as its Southern California property management business, ISPN in broadband IT support, or Strata in commercial landscaping.

Greymont’s take

How Align Capital Partners fits a seller

Align suits owners of service and niche manufacturing businesses who want a partner that keeps buying after the deal closes. Its platforms average more than three add-ons each, so a sale to Align often starts a build-up rather than ending one. Owners and leaders have stayed on in recent deals: the Watersedge founder now runs Strata's San Diego business, the third-generation Venco leader remained after that sale, and ISPN's owner-managers kept running the company after Align bought it.

Owners of property management and HOA management firms should note that Align bought a Southern California platform in January 2026 and closed its first add-on in April. Because Align takes control and later sells its platforms (it reported 13 exits as of June 2026), an owner should ask how long Align expects to hold the business, how much equity the owner will roll, and what role the owner will have once the company joins a larger group.

Questions owners ask

Does Align Capital Partners buy property management or HOA management companies?

Yes. In January 2026 it invested in a full-service property management firm serving multifamily, HOA, single-family and commercial properties across Southern California, and that platform added another California property manager in April 2026.

What size company does Align look for?

New platforms usually have $3 million to $15 million of EBITDA, an enterprise value up to about $150 million, gross margins above 30% and EBITDA margins above 15%. Align aims to invest $25 million to $75 million of equity.

Does Align invest in IT services companies?

IT services is a named sub-sector of its tech-enabled services focus. It bought ISPN, a managed IT services provider for rural broadband operators, in December 2024, and ISPN added ZCorum in March 2026.

Does Align work with independent sponsors?

Yes. Its Align Collaborate strategy co-invests alongside independent sponsors. The first fund, $233 million, backed seven platforms with seven different sponsors, and a second fund closed at $375 million in June 2026.
