What BV Investment Partners buys

BV Investment Partners is a Boston firm that backs tech-enabled business services and IT services companies. Its current holdings run from managed IT and banking technology for community banks (Navanta) and cloud services for accounting firms (Rightworks) to healthcare data, insurance services, workforce compliance, education technology and specialty tax businesses. BV takes majority or minority stakes, is often the first institutional investor a company has had, and works with management on hiring, technology upgrades and acquisitions. Its newest fund, Fund XII, closed at its $2.465 billion hard cap in January 2026.

BV says its equity checks start at about $65 million and run to $175 million or more, and that its companies have averaged $7 million to $30 million of EBITDA when it invests. It focuses on businesses based in North America. A company below that size is most likely to meet BV as an add-on to one of its platforms, such as Navanta or Domaine, both of which bought smaller companies in 2025.

Greymont’s take

How BV Investment Partners fits a seller

BV suits founders of IT services, managed services and tech-enabled business services companies, especially owners raising outside capital for the first time. Its 2026 announcements for Thomas & Company, Moxe Health and Altimeter all describe backing the existing leadership team rather than bringing in new management. Because BV also takes minority stakes, an owner can sometimes take money off the table while keeping control.

At BV's size, a direct platform deal usually needs well above $7 million of EBITDA, so smaller companies are more likely to sell to one of its platforms. Owners should ask whether BV wants a majority or a minority position, which fund the money comes from, and how it expects to sell. Its recent exits went both to a strategic buyer (TopBloc to ASGN) and to other private equity firms (CallTower to Court Square, Frontline to Broad Sky Partners).

Questions owners ask

Does BV Investment Partners invest in IT services and managed service providers?

Yes. IT services is one of its two focus areas, and its Fund XII announcement refers to the firm's MSP strategy. Current holdings include Navanta, which provides managed IT, security and core banking technology to community banks, and Rightworks, a cloud and IT services provider for accounting firms. In April 2026 it sold a majority of CallTower, a managed cloud communications provider.

How big does a company need to be for BV?

BV says its companies have averaged $7 million to $30 million of EBITDA when it invests, with equity checks of roughly $65 million to $175 million or more. Smaller businesses usually fit better as add-ons to an existing BV platform.

Will BV take a minority stake?

Yes. Its investment criteria cover both majority and minority positions, and the firm says it is often the first institutional investor a company has taken on. When it sold control of CallTower in 2026, BV and management also kept a minority stake.

How much capital does BV manage?

BV says it manages more than $7.5 billion. Fund XII closed at its $2.465 billion hard cap in January 2026. The firm dates back to 1983, and its current team and strategy have been in place since a 2012 relaunch.
