What Argosy Private Equity buys

Argosy Private Equity is the buyout arm of Argosy Capital in Wayne, Pennsylvania, and has invested in lower middle market companies since 1990. It looks for US businesses with $10 million to $100 million of revenue, $3 million to $10 million of EBITDA and EBITDA margins of at least 10%, and it puts in $10 million to $40 million at first, with room to go larger. It can invest common equity, preferred equity or mezzanine debt, plans to hold for three to seven years, and says its companies are often family or founder owned.

Its stated focus is specialized manufacturing, industrial services, transportation and logistics, and aviation products and services, though recent platforms also include an express car wash chain, a chimney and hearth services group and a heavy equipment training school. Argosy reports more than 140 platform investments across seven funds. Almost all of its 26 active companies are marked as seeking add-ons, which is the most likely route for a business with less than $3 million of EBITDA.

Greymont’s take

How Argosy Private Equity fits a seller

Argosy suits owners of manufacturing, industrial service and logistics companies with $3 million to $10 million of EBITDA who want an experienced buyer with a set improvement plan. After closing, its eight-person operating team applies the firm's Value Acceleration Methodology to areas such as pricing, sales, IT and add-on integration. Owners often keep a stake: Mr. Splash's two co-owners remained significant shareholders, and K&L Freight's senior team invested alongside Argosy in July 2026.

Argosy can also use preferred equity or mezzanine debt, which can matter to an owner deciding how much of the company to sell. Owners should ask whether Argosy is offering control or a minority position, which fund the money comes from now that Fund VI is fully invested, and how management fared at past exits such as Groome Industrial Service Group.

Questions owners ask

What size company does Argosy Private Equity buy?

It targets US companies with $10 million to $100 million of revenue and $3 million to $10 million of EBITDA, with EBITDA margins of 10% or more. First investments run $10 million to $40 million, with capacity to go larger.

Does Argosy take minority stakes?

Its page for business owners lists control or minority positions and structures including preferred equity and mezzanine debt, while its page for intermediaries lists control positions only, so owners should confirm what Argosy will offer.

Is Argosy Private Equity the same as Argosy Capital?

Argosy Private Equity is one of several teams at Argosy Capital in Wayne, Pennsylvania, alongside real estate, credit, strategic and healthcare groups. Argosy Capital reports about $3.1 billion of assets under management across all of them.

Has Argosy been buying recently?

Yes. It bought K&L Freight Management, an asset-light freight logistics provider, in July 2026. In 2025 it made its final Fund VI platform investment, Warehouse Anywhere, and completed 12 add-on acquisitions across the portfolio.
