What Godspeed Capital Management buys

Godspeed Capital is a Washington, DC private equity firm that buys lower middle market companies serving defense, intelligence and other government customers. It works in two areas. The first is defense, government services and technology, which covers intelligence software, cybersecurity, space and missile defense, and airborne communications. The second is government and social infrastructure, meaning architecture, engineering and consulting firms whose clients are mostly federal, state and local agencies. It has raised more than $1.1 billion since 2021 and invests from Fund III, which closed at its $675 million hard cap in November 2024.

Godspeed takes control. A typical target has about $3 million to $30 million of EBITDA and is based in North America, and the firm does founder buyouts, roll-ups, carve-outs, take-privates and special situations. It grows each platform through add-ons and welcomes sellers who roll equity. Smaller firms most often join as add-ons, such as a Memphis MEP engineer bought for Engineering Resource Group in 2026. In October 2026 it launched GreenVest, a new environmental restoration platform.

Greymont’s take

How Godspeed Capital Management fits a seller

Godspeed fits owners of engineering, architecture, consulting or technology firms that earn most of their revenue from government agencies, especially defense and intelligence customers. It is one of the busier buyers in that niche, with more than 40 acquisitions since its founding by its own count, so it has a practiced routine for buying and folding in government contractors.

Most sellers join an existing platform as an add-on, and the firm says it leaves day-to-day leadership to management rather than running the companies itself. It welcomes rollover equity and promises founders a clear path to a second payout when the platform is sold. SilverEdge, for example, was sold to SAIC in 2025 for $205 million. Owners should ask which platform they would join, how much equity they are expected to roll, and how the private credit Godspeed uses to fund add-ons could affect the business.

Questions owners ask

What size companies does Godspeed Capital buy?

Its stated range is about $3 million to $30 million of EBITDA for companies headquartered in North America, and it takes control. It says co-investment partners let it do larger deals, and many of its deals are add-ons for existing platforms.

Does Godspeed buy government IT contractors?

Yes. Its defense and government technology platforms include Crimson Phoenix, which serves the intelligence community, and NextPoint Group, formed in December 2025, which bought software developer UScontracting in May 2026. It agreed to sell SilverEdge Government Solutions to SAIC in October 2025.

Does Godspeed invest in environmental services companies?

It launched GreenVest in October 2026 as a new environmental platform. GreenVest, based in Bowie, Maryland, does ecological restoration, wetland and stream mitigation, stormwater work and environmental consulting, and Godspeed plans to grow it through acquisitions.

Do owners keep a stake after selling to Godspeed?

Often. Godspeed says it welcomes rollover equity from sellers and aims to give founders a clear path to a second payout when the platform is later sold. It also says it leaves day-to-day leadership to the management team.
