What CM Equity Partners buys
CM Equity Partners (CMEP) is a New York firm, founded in 1992, that invests only in companies serving the US federal government and the aerospace and defense industry. Its current holdings are federal IT, cybersecurity, engineering and mission support contractors, including Sabre Systems, ShorePoint, A-TEK and JANUS Research Group. It reports more than 70 completed transactions in these sectors, and its partners hold security clearances so they can take an active role in companies doing classified work.
CMEP looks for US companies with $40 million to $250 million of revenue and $5 million to $25 million or more of EBITDA, investing $10 million to $50 million per deal. It can take a majority or a minority stake and can use common equity, structured equity or mezzanine debt. Typical deals are management buyouts, recapitalizations of closely held companies that give owners cash or ease a handoff to the next generation, corporate spin-offs and growth capital. A contractor below that size is more likely to fit as an add-on, since CMEP helps its companies find and close acquisitions.

Greymont’s take
How CM Equity Partners fits a seller
CMEP fits founders and family owners of federal contractors, especially IT, cybersecurity and engineering firms, who want a specialist buyer and a choice in how much to sell. Because it takes majority or minority stakes, an owner can sell part of the company and keep running it, or sell most of it and step back. In the ShorePoint deal of November 2025, the company stayed stand-alone and its leaders stayed invested. In September 2024 CMEP bought Sabre Systems directly from its founder and majority owner.
CMEP also lends mezzanine debt, so an owner should ask whether an offer is equity, debt or a mix, and what each piece means for control and repayment. Holds can be long: it owned GracoRoberts for 11 years before the 2026 sale to Tinicum, so ask how long it expects to stay in.
