What Falfurrias Management Partners buys
Falfurrias is a Charlotte firm started in 2006 by Hugh McColl and Marc Oken, both former Bank of America executives, together with Ed McMahan. It chooses industries first, studies them closely, and then hunts for companies that fit each theme. Current themes include technology and engineering services for federal and national security customers, cybersecurity, commodity trading and risk services, packaged foods, education and training, and industrial technology. Its main fund, the $1.35 billion Falfurrias Capital Partners VI closed in March 2025, buys control of family and founder-owned companies with $5 million to $50 million of EBITDA.
A second fund, Falfurrias Growth Partners, backs software and business services companies with $1 million to $8 million of EBITDA or $5 million to $50 million of revenue, and can take a minority stake. Both funds grow their platforms through add-ons; Woven Solutions closed four in the ten months after Falfurrias invested. A smaller owner is most likely to meet Falfurrias through the growth fund or as an add-on to a platform in the same field.

Greymont’s take
How Falfurrias Management Partners fits a seller
Falfurrias is a good match for founders in fields it has already studied: technology, engineering and cyber services for government customers, packaged foods, and education and training. Smaller firms in the government technology space have had a steady way in as add-ons. Woven Solutions and Synergy ECP bought five such firms between December 2025 and June 2026. Founders often stay in charge. The CEO of Young American Food Brands kept his role, and Oddball's two founders kept running the company after Falfurrias invested.
Recent exits came after holds of about four to six years, to buyers such as Tokio Marine, Advent International, Shamrock Capital and Uplift Investors. An owner should ask which of the two funds would invest, since the main fund only buys control while the growth fund can take a minority stake. It is also worth asking whether Falfurrias already has a thesis on your industry, because that is how it picks its deals.
Questions owners ask
What size companies does Falfurrias invest in?
Its main fund, Falfurrias Capital Partners VI, targets companies with $5 million to $50 million of EBITDA. Its growth fund looks at software and business services companies with $1 million to $8 million of EBITDA, $4 million to $20 million of recurring revenue, or $5 million to $50 million of revenue.
Does Falfurrias buy IT services companies?
Yes, mostly firms that serve federal and national security agencies. Woven Solutions, Synergy ECP and Oddball are current platforms, and Woven and Synergy ECP together added five firms between December 2025 and June 2026.
Will Falfurrias take a minority stake?
The main fund makes only control investments. The growth fund, Falfurrias Growth Partners, mostly takes control too, but says some of its investments in software and business services companies are non-control.
How much capital has Falfurrias raised?
The firm says it has raised $4.0 billion across seven core funds since 2006, plus a single-asset continuation vehicle. Its latest flagship fund closed at $1.35 billion in March 2025, up from $850 million for the fund before it.
