What Renovus Capital Partners buys

Renovus is a firm in Wayne, Pennsylvania, outside Philadelphia, that has invested since 2010 in what it calls the Knowledge and Talent industries: education and training, healthcare services, technology services and professional services. On the technology side it backs managed IT and security providers, cloud and data firms, and government IT contractors such as CloudFirst, Aretum and xFact. It manages more than $2 billion and closed its fourth buyout fund at $875 million in October 2024.

Renovus buys control of founder-owned companies and says more than 85% of its deals have been the company's first outside capital. For a new platform it looks for at least $3 million of EBITDA and an enterprise value between $10 million and $200 million, then grows the business with add-ons; it counts more than 100 companies backed since it started. Owners below that size are most likely to meet Renovus as an add-on to a platform such as CloudFirst, F2 Strategy or Superior Health Holdings.

Greymont’s take

How Renovus Capital Partners fits a seller

Renovus suits founders of service businesses that run on skilled people: managed IT and cybersecurity providers, government IT contractors, home health and therapy providers, schools and training companies, and specialist consultancies. Most of its deals are a company's first institutional capital, so it is used to owners who have never sold before. It leans hard on add-ons: the managed IT platform it started with Performive in November 2024 has since bought CloudFirst and the Forvis Mazars IT practice, and F2 Strategy has made at least eight acquisitions since 2023.

A sale usually means Renovus takes control while the current leaders keep running the company, as Chant Healthcare's management did in April 2026. It also recruits outside executives, more than 50 so far by its count. Owners should ask whether they will keep the top job and how Renovus expects to exit, since recent sales went to other private equity firms such as Water Street and Braemont.

Questions owners ask

Does Renovus buy managed IT service providers?

Yes. Technology services is one of its four sectors, with managed services and security on its list. It took a majority stake in MSP Performive in November 2024, that platform bought CloudFirst in 2025, and in September 2026 CloudFirst added the IT and cyber managed services practice of Forvis Mazars.

How big does a company need to be for Renovus?

For a new platform it targets at least $3 million of EBITDA and an enterprise value between $10 million and $200 million. Smaller companies usually join as add-ons, such as the Autism ETC clinics that joined Behavioral Framework in January 2026.

Does Renovus back government IT contractors?

Yes. Its Aretum platform serves federal agencies and added Veterans Engineering in December 2025, while xFact, which works for state and local governments, combined with DataServ in July 2025 and bought Stonewall Solutions in June 2026.

Will Renovus invest in a company that has never had outside investors?

That is its usual case. Renovus says more than 85% of its investments were the company's first institutional capital, and it mainly partners with founder-led businesses.
