What Clearview Capital buys

Clearview Capital is a Stamford, Connecticut firm, founded in 1999, that buys and recapitalizes lower middle market companies across North America. It is a generalist, with current holdings in business services, healthcare, manufacturing, consumer products and specialized distribution. For a new platform it wants $5 million to $25 million of EBITDA, cash flow margins of at least 10 percent, a history of profitable growth and a management team that plans to stay. It puts $30 million to $125 million of equity into each deal and will take either a majority or a significant minority stake.

Typical situations are family-owned companies changing hands, founder recapitalizations, management buyouts, corporate carve-outs and growth capital. Its main pool today is the $850 million Fund V, raised in 2022, and it also runs mezzanine funds. A smaller owner is most likely to meet Clearview through an add-on. The firm says it will look at add-ons of any size and posts separate add-on criteria for each platform, including Capitol Imaging, Capitol Services and Orchard & Vineyard Supply.

Greymont’s take

How Clearview Capital fits a seller

Clearview suits founders and families who want to take money off the table but keep a meaningful stake and keep running the business. In its three newest platforms, Loss Prevention Services, Advantage Behavioral Health and LJM Group, the founders kept significant equity and the existing leaders stayed in charge. It is also a patient owner: it sold UpSwell in 2026 after buying it in 2018, and it still holds Orchard & Vineyard Supply from 2016 and Derby Building Products from 2014.

Owners of smaller outpatient imaging, corporate legal services, occupational health or agricultural supply businesses should read the add-on criteria on each platform page, since Clearview buys add-ons of any size. Two questions to ask: how your rollover equity ranks, given the firm says it avoids holding securities with a preference over management's stake, and which fund is investing, because an older fund may be closer to a sale.

Questions owners ask

What size company does Clearview Capital buy?

For a new platform it targets $5 million to $25 million of EBITDA and invests $30 million to $125 million of equity. Its overview puts typical enterprise values at $50 million to $250 million. Add-ons can be any size.

Does Clearview Capital take minority stakes?

Yes. Its overview says it provides majority or significant minority capital, and its listed uses of capital include recapitalizations, management buyouts and growth capital as well as full ownership transitions.

Do owners keep equity after a Clearview deal?

Usually. In the Loss Prevention Services, Advantage Behavioral Health and LJM Group platform deals of 2025 and 2026, the founders kept a significant stake, and the firm says it does not hold securities that rank ahead of management's own investment.

Which industries does Clearview Capital invest in?

It describes itself as a generalist. Its current platforms fall into five groups: business services, healthcare, manufacturing, consumer products and specialized distribution, ranging from diagnostic imaging centers to hunting accessories.
