O2 is one of the busier buyers of small services businesses, and most of its deals are add-ons to platforms it already owns. That makes it a realistic option for owners of auto repair shops, pool service companies, commercial cleaning firms, roofing and exterior contractors, managed IT providers and commercial paving companies, including some well under $1 million of EBITDA. Founders often stay on: the Silverlake Automotive founder became brand president inside Straightaway, and the Macchione family took a stake in Ironcore Paving when it joined.
O2 describes its style as decentralized, involved in the main drivers of the business but leaving daily execution to management. Because many sellers roll part of their proceeds into the larger platform, owners should ask how that stake is valued, what their role will be after closing, and when O2 expects to sell the platform.
