What Trivest Partners buys
Trivest Partners, founded in 1981 and based in Coral Gables, Florida, invests only in founder-led and family-owned businesses in the United States and Canada. It runs four strategies that cover a wide size range. The Discovery Fund buys control of companies with $1 million to $4 million of EBITDA and $5 million to $40 million of revenue. The Mid-Market Fund takes control at $4 million to $15 million of EBITDA. The Growth Investment Fund buys minority stakes in companies with more than $4 million of EBITDA for founders who want to keep a majority, and the Recognition Fund buys larger companies with $15 million or more. Its sectors are business services, consumer, healthcare, niche manufacturing and value-added distribution.
The bar for add-ons is low: Trivest asks for at least $1 million of revenue, no minimum EBITDA and a fit with a current platform. Many platforms post their own criteria, such as independent collision repair centers with $5 million or more of revenue for OpenRoad.

Greymont’s take
How Trivest Partners fits a seller
Trivest is one of the closer fits in this directory for a founder-owned company with $1 million to $15 million of EBITDA, because every one of its funds is aimed at founder and family sellers. Owners in collision repair, valet trash, sewer and stormwater services, portable sanitation, HVAC, roofing, landscaping or pest control can sell into an existing platform, and a founder who wants to keep control can take a minority investment from the Growth fund instead.
Trivest says it closes at the price in its letter of intent, can close with all equity, and uses representation and warranty insurance instead of escrows. Its recent exits of NaturPak, Epika and Young American Food Brands all came four to seven years after minority investments. An owner should ask which fund would invest and how Trivest's goal of tripling a business in three to five years would change day-to-day operations.
Questions owners ask
Does Trivest buy collision repair shops?
Yes. Trivest formed OpenRoad with LP First Capital in September 2022, starting with Car Crafters in New Mexico and three Texas shops. OpenRoad's posted add-on criteria call for independent collision repair centers or networks in the United States with at least $5 million of revenue.
Does Trivest buy waste or environmental services companies?
Yes, through several platforms. Brightstep runs doorstep valet trash service for apartment communities, EnviroWaste cleans and repairs sewer and stormwater systems in Florida and the Southeast, and Total Sanitation Services rents portable toilets in Ontario. Brightstep and EnviroWaste look for add-ons with $1 million to $10 million of EBITDA.
Can I sell part of my company to Trivest and keep control?
Yes. The Trivest Growth Investment Fund makes non-control investments in founder-led companies with more than $4 million of EBITDA. Its third fund closed at $730 million in October 2024, and NaturPak and Young American Food Brands were minority holdings that sold in 2026.
How small a company will Trivest consider?
As a new platform, the Discovery Fund looks at companies with $1 million to $4 million of EBITDA and $5 million to $40 million of revenue. As an add-on to a current platform, Trivest asks for $1 million or more of revenue and a strategic fit, with no EBITDA minimum.
