Private Equity Firms Buying Roofing Companies

49 firms profiled · Updated October 27, 2026

Roofing has become a busy corner of the home and building services market for private equity. Every roof needs replacing eventually, storms create sudden spikes in demand, and most roofing companies are still owned by the people who built them. Buyers see room to combine local contractors into regional groups that share purchasing on materials, crews, insurance and marketing.

The first thing a buyer will want to understand is the mix of work. Residential re-roofing, commercial re-roofing, new construction, repair and maintenance, and storm restoration all behave differently. Replacement and repair work tied to aging roofs is valued most, because it recurs and does not depend on new building. Storm work can produce big years, but buyers will usually look at several years of results and adjust for an unusually busy season. Commercial contractors with service agreements on large buildings are often treated more like a services business than a construction business.

Expect questions about how jobs are sold and how crews are paid. Buyers look at lead sources and closing rates, the share of work done by employees compared with subcontracted crews, warranty claims and reserves, safety record and insurance costs, and whether the company holds manufacturer certifications that let it offer extended warranties. Concentration matters as well: a contractor that depends on one builder, insurance carrier or property manager will be asked how secure that relationship is.

Most of the firms below already own a roofing or exterior services platform, so most independent roofers will meet them as an add-on to an existing group rather than as a new platform. Owners should ask whether the local brand will be kept, how the sales team will be paid after closing, whether part of the price depends on future results, and how much of the proceeds the buyer expects to be rolled into the larger company.

Greymont is paid by buyers, never by owners. Whenever a sale is on your horizon, Greymont can help you sort out which of these buyers want roofing companies like yours and on what terms.
