What Gridiron Capital buys

Gridiron Capital is a New Canaan, Connecticut firm with about $10.7 billion under management that buys control of middle market companies in three broad sectors: industrial growth, business services, and consumer products and services. Within those it works from a list of narrow themes, such as residential services, IT services, legal and insurance services, outsourced pharma services and value-added distribution, and it builds relationships with companies in those themes well before they come up for sale. It does buyouts, founder recapitalizations and corporate carve-outs, and backs each company with in-house operating specialists it calls Centers of Excellence.

New platforms are large. Gridiron looks for an enterprise value of $150 million or more and an equity check of at least $100 million, with the company based in North America. Add-ons have no minimum size and can be anywhere in the world. A smaller company is most likely to meet Gridiron as an add-on to one of its platforms, such as GarageCo, Greenix, Weed Man, Legacy Service Partners or Centroid.

Greymont’s take

How Gridiron Capital fits a seller

Gridiron suits owners of larger service businesses, especially home services, legal and compliance services and IT services, who want a control buyer with a hands-on growth plan. Founders and leaders often stay: Weed Man's CEO continues to run the company after the October 2026 deal, and the founder of van den Boom & Associates is still in charge of her firm. Owners of smaller companies will usually be talking to a Gridiron platform about an add-on, as Dan's Overhead Doors did with GarageCo in 2025, keeping its local name.

Gridiron sometimes combines its own companies, as it did when Leaf Home bought Erie Home, so an owner should ask how the platform they would join fits the firm's longer plan and when that fund expects to sell. It is also worth asking how much of the promised operating help comes from Gridiron's own team and how much from the platform's managers.

Questions owners ask

How large does a company need to be for Gridiron Capital?

For a new platform, Gridiron targets an enterprise value of at least $150 million and an equity investment of $100 million or more. There is no minimum size for add-on acquisitions made by its existing companies.

Does Gridiron invest in IT services companies?

Yes. IT services is one of its named themes within business services. In July 2026 it invested in Centroid, a Michigan provider of Oracle cloud consulting and managed services, which it described as the final platform for its Fund V.

Does Gridiron buy home services companies?

Residential services is one of its most active themes. Recent platforms include Greenix in pest control (July 2025) and Weed Man in lawn care (October 2026), and its GarageCo platform keeps adding local garage door companies.
