What Platform Partners buys

Platform Partners is a Houston investment company founded in 2006 that invests from a perpetual holding company with permanent capital, not from a fund with a fixed life. It manages about $800 million and aims to put $25 million to $100 million of equity into each lower middle market company, not counting co-investors. Deals can be buyouts, recapitalizations, growth capital, buyouts of family or partner stakes, management buyouts or significant minority stakes, using common equity, preferred equity or subordinated debt. It looks for strong free cash flow, a capable management team and room to grow by acquisition in a fragmented industry.

Target industries include business services, consumer products, energy, financial and insurance services, industrial services and distribution, media, payments, retail and telecommunications. Current holdings range from Champion Contractors & Services, a national commercial roofing contractor bought in October 2025, and Progressive Pipeline Management in gas pipeline rehabilitation, to July Business Services in 401(k) administration and Principle Health Systems in mobile diagnostics. Several of these companies buy smaller firms, which is the likeliest route in for a smaller owner.

Greymont’s take

How Platform Partners fits a seller

Platform's main difference is its permanent capital. Because it does not invest from a fund that must hand money back to investors by a set date, it can hold a company indefinitely, and it says it manages each investment as if it will own it forever. For an owner, that means no forced resale on a fund timetable and the option to sell only part of the business, in some structures keeping majority control. The founder of Progressive Pipeline Management kept a large stake and still runs the company, while Champion's founder used a majority recapitalization to take money off the table.

The trade-off is that any later sale of the owner's remaining shares is decided jointly with Platform and management rather than on a schedule. Owners should ask how and when they could sell those shares, whether Platform would buy them, and how the company will be valued in the meantime.

Questions owners ask

How is Platform Partners different from a typical private equity firm?

It invests from a perpetual holding company with permanent capital instead of a fund with a fixed term, so there is no exit deadline. It says it runs each investment as if it will own it forever, though it may still sell if owners and management agree the time is right.

How much does Platform Partners invest in a company?

It targets equity investments of $25 million to $100 million per company, not counting money from co-investors, and reports about $800 million of assets under management. It does not publish a revenue or EBITDA range.

Can an owner keep control after Platform invests?

In some structures, yes. Platform offers to buy out family members or other shareholders while the owner-operator keeps majority control, and it also takes significant minority positions with board representation or governance rights.

Does Platform Partners buy roofing or construction services companies?

Yes. In October 2025 it completed a majority recapitalization of Champion Contractors & Services, a national commercial roofing and storm restoration contractor in Round Rock, Texas. It also owns Progressive Pipeline Management, Dynamic Glass and Process Service Specialists.
