What Levine Leichtman Capital Partners buys
Levine Leichtman Capital Partners (LLCP) is a Beverly Hills firm, founded in Los Angeles in 1984, that manages $15.0 billion. It uses what it calls Structured Private Equity: each investment mixes debt and equity, so its funds collect regular cash payments as well as owning the business, and managers can invest in both pieces. It seeks majority control and focuses on four areas: business services (legal and compliance services, testing and inspection, environmental and water services, information services), franchising and multi-unit brands, education and training, and engineered products.
It invests from three pools. The flagship funds, including the $3.6 billion Fund VII closed in July 2025, target mostly US companies with about $50 million to $250 million of revenue. The $2.0 billion Lower Middle Market IV fund, closed in July 2026, targets US companies with under $50 million of revenue, and a European team backs companies above about 25 million euros of revenue. A smaller business may also meet LLCP as an add-on to one of its holdings.

Greymont’s take
How Levine Leichtman Capital Partners fits a seller
LLCP suits an owner who wants to sell control but keep a real stake, and who is comfortable with a deal where the buyer also lends money to the company. Founders and managers usually stay on with significant equity, as at Signature Resolution in January 2026 and ALL4 in January 2025, and the firm lets managers invest in both the debt and the equity. It buys often in franchising, outsourced legal and compliance services, testing and inspection, and route-based services, and it has sold recent companies to larger investors such as Permira and Bridgepoint.
Because part of LLCP's money comes in as debt that pays cash every month, an owner should ask how that debt is priced, how it limits other borrowing for growth, and what a rolled stake is worth once it is repaid. Also ask which fund would invest, since the lower middle market and flagship funds aim at very different company sizes.
Questions owners ask
What is LLCP's Structured Private Equity?
LLCP invests through a mix of debt and equity securities rather than equity alone. The firm says this gives its investors monthly cash distributions and downside protection, and gives management teams long-term capital with less dilution than a typical buyout. It still seeks majority control of the companies it backs.
Does LLCP buy environmental or water services companies?
It has. In February 2024 its Fund VII bought USA Water, which runs and maintains water and wastewater systems for towns and utility districts in the Southeast, and in January 2025 it bought ALL4, an environmental, health and safety consulting firm based in Philadelphia.
How small a company will LLCP consider?
Its lower middle market platform targets mostly US companies with less than $50 million of revenue and is backed by the $2.0 billion LMM IV fund closed in July 2026. Its flagship funds look at companies with about $50 million to $250 million of revenue.
Does LLCP invest in franchise brands?
Yes. Franchising and multi-unit businesses are one of its four core sectors. Shipley Do-Nuts, bought in July 2025, was its 18th franchising investment, and its current franchise holdings include SYNERGY HomeCare, Kilwins, Club Champion and SEV.
