What Huron Capital buys
Huron Capital is a Detroit private equity firm, founded in 1999, that now focuses on services companies. Through its HCP Services strategy it targets work that customers cannot skip in three areas: infrastructure services, facility services such as mechanical, electrical, building controls and commercial roofing, and residential services for homes and small businesses. It takes control of companies with $20 million to $200 million of revenue and aims to put $50 million or more of equity into each business over time. It reports more than $2.4 billion managed across seven funds and more than 290 platform and add-on companies.
Huron is a buy-and-build investor. Through its ExecFactor program it often picks an industry first, recruits a CEO, and then buys a first company to build around, as it did with Exigent in mechanical services, Criticore in electrical services and Rampart Exterior Services in commercial roofing. Most of its recent deals are add-ons to those platforms, so a smaller contractor is most likely to meet Huron through one of them.

Greymont’s take
How Huron Capital fits a seller
Huron fits owners of commercial service contractors, such as HVAC and mechanical firms, electrical contractors, building controls companies and commercial roofers, especially those built on repeat service and retrofit work. Its platforms say what they want: Rampart has said it prefers commercial roofers with little exposure to new construction, homeowners or storm work, and Criticore looks for non-union electrical firms serving facilities that cannot afford downtime. Sellers to these platforms have usually kept their local leaders in place, as with Superior Building Services in June 2026 and Colorado Moisture Control in January 2026.
An owner should ask which platform would buy the business and how it fits that platform's map. Huron invests from funds and has sold platforms such as Horsepower Automotive Group and Pacific Shoring after years of add-ons, so also ask how long it expects to hold the platform you would join.
Questions owners ask
What size companies does Huron Capital buy?
Huron seeks control investments in service businesses with $20 million to $200 million of revenue, and it aims to invest $50 million or more of equity in each business it backs, often through add-ons over time.
Does Huron Capital buy commercial roofing companies?
Yes. It launched Rampart Exterior Services in 2024 to buy re-roofing, waterproofing and repair firms, and Rampart has since added Independent Roofing Systems, Port Enterprises in Texas and Colorado Moisture Control in Denver.
Does Huron Capital buy HVAC and mechanical contractors?
Yes, through The Exigent Group, which provides HVAC, plumbing and mechanical service to large facilities. Exigent's June 2026 purchase of Superior Building Services in Columbus, Ohio was its eighth acquisition.
What is Huron's ExecFactor program?
It is Huron's method of choosing an industry first, recruiting an experienced executive to lead the effort, and then buying a first company to grow into a larger platform through add-ons. Exigent, Criticore and Rampart all started this way.
