What Sun Capital Partners buys

Sun Capital Partners is a Boca Raton, Florida firm that has invested since 1995 and says it has bought more than 570 companies. It looks for businesses where hands-on operating work can lift results, across business and consumer services, food and consumer, and industrials and distribution, in North America and Europe. Current US platforms include Latite Roofing & Sheet Metal in Florida and Andersen Commercial Plumbing in Southern California. Its criteria call for $3 million or more of EBITDA and equity checks of $50 million to $300 million, and it reports about $5.6 billion of assets under management as of March 2026.

Sun buys founder and family owned companies, corporate carve-outs and businesses from other sponsors. It says it aims to close within 30 days of a signed letter of intent, usually with no financing contingency. Add-ons matter: about half of its deals have been add-ons, it completed a record 37 in 2025, and it will look at add-ons of any size. A smaller owner is most likely to meet Sun as an add-on to a current platform.

Greymont’s take

How Sun Capital Partners fits a seller

Sun suits owners who value speed and certainty. The firm says it aims to close within 30 days of a letter of intent and that most of its deals carry no financing contingency, which lowers the risk of a deal falling apart late. Expect an involved owner: full-time operating partners and Sun's own improvement toolkit, the Sun Transformation System, are central to how it grows a business, so a seller should be ready for operational changes after closing.

Founders often stay involved. B&H Worldwide's CEO stayed invested after the 2026 deal, and Cotton Holdings' founder praised Sun's grasp of founder-led businesses when Sun sold it in 2025. Owners of roofing, commercial plumbing or environmental services companies that are too small to be a platform can approach Sun as add-ons to Latite, Andersen or EIS. Ask how long Sun expects to hold, since it has used continuation vehicles to keep Fletchers and Anderson Global past a normal fund life.

Questions owners ask

What size company does Sun Capital Partners buy?

Its stated criteria are EBITDA of $3 million or more and equity investments of $50 million to $300 million for new platforms. For add-ons to its current companies, it says it will consider businesses of any size.

How fast can Sun Capital Partners close a deal?

Sun says it is committed to closing within 30 days of signing a letter of intent, and that most of its transactions have no financing contingency, which reduces the chance of a late collapse.

Is Sun Capital Partners still making new investments?

Yes. It bought Latite Roofing & Sheet Metal in January 2025 and invested in B&H Worldwide in March 2026. In February 2026 it said its 2025 activity included one platform deal, seven exits and a record 37 add-ons.
