What Gauge Capital buys

Gauge Capital is a private equity firm in Southlake, Texas, founded in 2013, that manages about $3 billion. It invests in three broad groups: business services and technology, healthcare, and food and consumer. Its current companies run from software, insurance agency networks and cybersecurity training to roofing, commercial landscaping, elevator service, clinical research sites, pediatric dental clinics and consumer brands. Gauge looks for at least $5 million of EBITDA, or $7 million of recurring revenue for fast-growing software businesses, and enterprise values of $50 million to $500 million. It takes majority or minority stakes and expects the founder to keep a meaningful share of the equity.

Gauge's own team is the largest investor in its funds, putting up more than a quarter of the $1.4 billion Fund IV that closed in March 2024. Much of its recent activity is add-ons: Reliable Medical, Rovia Clinical Research and Axxiom Elevator have each bought smaller, founder-led companies since 2025. An owner below the $5 million EBITDA bar is most likely to meet Gauge through one of those platforms.

Greymont’s take

How Gauge Capital fits a seller

Gauge suits founders of profitable, growing companies who want to sell a large stake but keep a real piece of the upside. Its criteria call for significant rollover by the owner, and its 2026 deals for Affordable American Insurance and Ecosystems were recapitalizations alongside the existing teams rather than clean exits. Smaller owners in clinical research, complex rehab equipment or elevator service can instead sell into an existing platform; in September 2026 a founder-built Tulsa business, Action Seating & Mobility, joined Reliable Medical.

Gauge has sold companies to large strategic buyers, including eDynamic Learning to Pearson and Urology America to GI Alliance in 2025. Owners should ask how much equity they will be expected to roll, how long Gauge expects to hold the business, and what kind of buyer it is building toward.

Questions owners ask

How big does a company need to be for Gauge Capital?

Gauge's stated criteria are at least $5 million of EBITDA and an enterprise value of $50 million to $500 million. For fast-growing software companies it looks for $7 million or more of annual recurring revenue. Smaller companies usually join as add-ons to an existing platform.

Does Gauge buy majority or minority stakes?

Both. Its approach page lists majority and minority investments and expects significant rollover by the owner or founder. Most of its recent announcements describe growth capital combined with a recapitalization alongside the management team.

Does Gauge invest in home and commercial services companies?

Yes. Commercial and residential services is one of its listed business services sub-sectors. Its current portfolio includes Apple Roofing, the commercial landscaper AHPIX and Axxiom Elevator, which made its eighth acquisition, AmeriTex Elevator, in September 2025.
