What Kompass Kapital buys
Kompass Kapital is a single-family office in Overland Park, Kansas, formed in 2014 to bring together a family's investments that go back to 1981. It invests its own money and invites other families and investors to join it, through direct deals, co-investments, funds and special purpose vehicles. Its criteria target lower middle market companies with $5 million to $50 million of revenue and $1 million to $10 million of EBITDA, with equity checks from $1 million up to $100 million. Named interests include consumer services, business services, financial services, healthcare, infrastructure, agribusiness and real estate.
The firm reports more than $1 billion of assets and five portfolio companies under management: Airshare in private aviation, Dynamic Logistix in freight logistics, Moonshot Solutions in managed IT, LightSpeed in UK broadband, and Founders Home Service Group. Founders, a majority-owned platform launched in 2021, is where Kompass buys most often, picking up HVAC and plumbing contractors in Tennessee, the Carolinas and Georgia. A small home services company is the clearest fit today.

Greymont’s take
How Kompass Kapital fits a seller
Kompass suits owners of residential HVAC, plumbing and electrical companies in the Southeast who would rather sell to a long-term family owner than to a fund on a fixed clock. Founders Home Service Group has bought three such businesses since December 2025, and its releases talk about keeping local leaders and adding service lines, such as HVAC at AAA City Plumbing and plumbing at Empire. Founders also says sellers can keep a stake in their company without complex payout schemes.
Outside home services, Kompass mixes control holdings with passive stakes and fund commitments, and it often brings in partner investors. An owner in another industry should ask whether Kompass would take control or a minority stake, who else would put money in, and who would provide operating support after closing.
