What Dominus Capital buys
Dominus Capital is a New York private equity firm, founded in 2008, that buys control of founder- and family-owned companies in business services and industrials. Its current holdings include makers of equipment attachments, traffic safety products, sports scoreboards and vending systems, along with a lock and door hardware distributor, a street-level advertising company and a buying group for foodservice equipment dealers. It looks for niche market leaders with room to grow, recurring revenue and strong cash flow, and it leans on a bench of former portfolio company CEOs who serve as operating partners.
Its firm summary sets the platform target at $10 million to $30 million of EBITDA and an equity check of $40 million to $100 million, for companies in North America. In April 2026 it closed its fourth fund at more than $640 million, which brought its assets under management to about $1.9 billion. Owners below that size are more likely to meet Dominus as an add-on: Lockmasters, Seaga Manufacturing and Consolidated Equipment Group have all bought smaller companies since late 2024.

Greymont’s take
How Dominus Capital fits a seller
Dominus fits owners of established manufacturing, distribution or business services companies with at least $10 million of EBITDA who want a control buyer that keeps the management team in place. Its releases show a steady pattern: owners of acquired companies often stay in a leadership role, as at Orchard Lock and Agile Manufacturing, and Pelco's management kept a significant stake after the July 2026 deal. Dominus says it makes only a few new investments each year, so each company gets real attention from its partners and operating executives.
Smaller owners in locks and security hardware, vending and unattended retail, or equipment attachments may fit as add-ons to existing platforms. An owner should ask how much equity they can roll over and how long Dominus expects to hold the business. For reference, Surface Preparation Technologies more than doubled in size under Dominus before its sale in January 2026.
