What Transom Capital Group buys

Transom Capital Group is a Los Angeles area firm, based in El Segundo, that has bought middle market companies since 2008. Its website lists $1.7 billion of assets under management across four funds and 48 total transactions. Transom does not pick industries first. It looks for complicated situations: divisions that a corporate parent wants to sell, businesses owned by their lenders, private equity holdings near the end of their life, and founder-owned companies with an unusual setup. It then puts its large in-house operations team to work on sales, digital systems, products, supply chain and costs.

The stated limits are revenue up to $1.0 billion, adjusted EBITDA up to $75 million and enterprise value up to $600 million, with a North American headquarters and a controlling equity stake. Its current holdings run from consumer brands and salons to flooring distribution, glass contracting, electronics manufacturing and managed IT. Smaller companies usually meet Transom as add-ons, such as the regional managed IT providers that Secur-Serv bought in 2025.

Greymont’s take

How Transom Capital Group fits a seller

Transom fits owners whose situation is messy rather than simple: a corporate parent selling a division, a business its lenders now control, a company that needs a turnaround, or a founder business with clear operating gaps. The firm promises speed and certainty to sellers, and then expects real change, since cost reduction and supply chain restructuring are among its six stated levers next to sales and product work. Most founders of smaller companies will meet it through an add-on, as when the owner of Micro-Data Systems joined Secur-Serv in 2025.

Transom holds for a while: it bought Secur-Serv in a 2019 carve-out and was still adding to it in 2025. An owner should ask how much of the current team the operations group expects to replace, what changes are planned for the first year, and whether the purchase price depends on hitting targets after closing.

Questions owners ask

What size of company does Transom Capital buy?

Its posted criteria are revenue up to $1.0 billion, adjusted EBITDA up to $75 million and enterprise value up to $600 million, with a North American headquarters. It takes control equity positions.

Does Transom buy founder-owned businesses?

Yes, though complexity is its main filter. Its method page lists founder-owned and other bespoke deals next to corporate carve-outs, lender-owned businesses and private equity holdings near the end of their life. Founder companies also join its platforms as add-ons.

Does Transom invest in managed IT services?

Yes. Secur-Serv, an Omaha managed services provider it has owned since a 2019 carve-out, bought New Jersey's Micro-Data Systems in May 2025 and Fort Worth's Arrowhead Technologies in June 2025, its fifth add-on under Transom.

What is Transom's most recent fund?

Transom Capital Fund IV held its final close at $675 million in November 2024, more than double the size of Fund III. The firm raised another $79.5 million of co-investment commitments at the same time.
