What Alterna Equity Partners buys

Alterna Equity Partners is a South Florida private equity firm, with offices in Fort Lauderdale and Delray Beach, that buys majority stakes in founder- and family-owned lower middle market companies and sometimes takes a minority position. Its criteria call for $3 million to $15 million or more of EBITDA, $10 million to $150 million of revenue, and enterprise values of roughly $15 million to $150 million. It invests $5 million to $20 million of equity per deal and can go bigger with co-investors. Target sectors are business services, industrials, healthcare services, transportation and logistics, technology and financial services.

It can invest anywhere in the United States, but its core focus is companies based in the South. It favors buy-and-build plans, family businesses facing a transition, and buyouts led by operators or management, and it says it keeps debt levels conservative. Current holdings are Bulk Environmental & Industrial, a Southeast hauler of waste and bulk materials, the marketing agency Mod Op, and National Transmission Products, an auto parts distributor. Add-ons have no minimum size.

Greymont’s take

How Alterna Equity Partners fits a seller

Alterna suits founders and families in the South who want a partner that backs the current team's growth plan and lets them keep a meaningful stake. Its strategy is built around equity alignment with owners and managers, and its October 2026 NATPRO investment was made in partnership with the company's president. The firm is a selective buyer: NATPRO was its only announced deal in the 24 months before this review, and Bulk Environmental last announced an add-on in 2023. That can mean close attention from the partners, but fewer examples to check.

An owner should ask how much of Fund I is left for new platforms and add-ons, what stake and board role the firm expects the founder to keep, and how it has worked with past owners. Speaking with the founders of Bulk Express or Mod Op would be a good reference check.
