What Gemini Investors buys

Gemini Investors is a Wellesley, Massachusetts firm, founded in 1993, that backs smaller established US companies. Its criteria call for $5 million to $50 million of revenue, at least $1 million of EBITDA, three or more years of operating history, steady growth and an experienced management team. It usually invests $3 million to $8 million per deal and says it has put more than $900 million into over 180 companies. Areas it singles out include business services, consumer products and services, healthcare, later stage technology, manufacturing and distribution, and waste and recycling.

Gemini takes either control or minority positions and builds each structure around the company, using subordinated debt with warrants, preferred stock or common equity. Its deals include buyouts, recapitalizations that give shareholders some liquidity, growth capital and acquisition financing, and it often invests next to other private equity firms and independent sponsors. It is now investing from Gemini Investors VIII, whose first listed investments date from May 2026.

Greymont’s take

How Gemini Investors fits a seller

Gemini fits the owner of a small, profitable company who wants to take some money off the table or bring in a capital partner without necessarily selling everything. Many of its recent deals are recapitalizations, including Legacy Tow Group, Party Reflections, Gold Coast Baking and W.A. Jones, and it will take minority stakes. It also buys companies outright, as with Universal Building Services, Honey Smoked Fish and La Canasta Tortillas.

Gemini tends to hold for a long time: Quality Powder Coating, a 2015 investment, was still making acquisitions in 2025. Because Gemini often invests through subordinated debt and preferred stock rather than common equity alone, an owner should ask how the capital will be structured, what the debt costs the company each year, and who will control the board after closing.

Questions owners ask

How big a company does Gemini Investors look for?

Its stated target is a US company with $5 million to $50 million of revenue, at least $1 million of EBITDA and three or more years of operating history. It usually invests $3 million to $8 million per transaction.

Will Gemini take a minority stake?

Yes. Gemini invests in both control and minority positions and can use subordinated debt with warrants, preferred stock or common equity, so some structures let the owner keep majority ownership.

Does Gemini invest in waste and recycling companies?

Waste and recycling is one of the focus areas named on its home page. Past investments include Waste Associates, construction debris recycler LL&S and food waste recycler Endres, and its current portfolio includes Sinclair, which supports drilling waste management.

Does Gemini work with independent sponsors?

Yes. Its June 2026 overview says its principals have extensive experience co-investing with other private equity firms and independent sponsors, and its strategy page lists a willingness to co-invest with partners.
