What Flexpoint Ford buys

Flexpoint Ford is a Chicago private equity firm that has spent about two decades investing in financial services and related fields, and it manages $9.8 billion as of June 2026. Its private equity strategy covers five areas: insurance and insurance services (carriers, agencies and brokers, claims managers and TPAs), specialty finance and lending services, asset and wealth management, business services and technology (payments, consulting, accounting and industry software), and healthcare business and financial services. It looks for companies with $10 million to $100 million of EBITDA and enterprise values of roughly $200 million to $2 billion, and it will take control or a minority stake.

A second strategy, Asset Opportunity, puts structured capital into insurance sidecars, music royalties and other asset-backed deals. A smaller business is most likely to meet Flexpoint as an add-on, because its platforms buy often: Clearstead added Waveland Family Office and the Clarius Group, Public Trust Advisors combined with PMA, and Elliott Davis brought in AMPLOS.

Greymont’s take

How Flexpoint Ford fits a seller

Flexpoint is a specialist buyer for owners in financial services: insurance agencies and MGAs, RIAs and wealth managers, accounting and advisory firms, lenders and fintech service providers. Most owners below its $10 million EBITDA floor will meet it through one of its platforms. Clearstead, for example, has bought several RIAs and family offices, and their principals have generally joined as equity partners rather than cashing out entirely.

Flexpoint is flexible on structure. Its 2025 Elliott Davis deal was a growth investment tied to a planned CEO handover, and its December 2024 Apollo Care deal was a minority stake. Owners should ask whether Flexpoint wants control or a minority position, how long it expects to hold, and whether it might use a continuation vehicle, as it did with SageSure in 2026, to keep a company beyond one fund's life.

Questions owners ask

What size companies does Flexpoint Ford invest in?

Its private equity criteria call for $10 million to $100 million of EBITDA and enterprise values between about $200 million and $2 billion. Smaller firms usually come in as add-ons to an existing platform.

Does Flexpoint Ford buy insurance agencies and brokers?

Yes. Insurance and insurance services is its first listed focus, and it names insurance and reinsurance brokers among its targets. It owns Alera Group, a national retail agency, along with managing general agents and underwriters such as SageSure and VALE.

Will Flexpoint take a minority stake?

Yes. Its criteria allow control or minority ownership. It took a minority stake in Apollo Care in December 2024 and made a significant minority investment in Create Music Group in June 2024.

Does Flexpoint invest in accounting firms?

Yes. In June 2025 it made a strategic growth investment in Elliott Davis, a top 50 US accounting and advisory firm based in Greenville, South Carolina, which then added the consulting firm AMPLOS in March 2026.
