What Terramont Infrastructure Partners buys
Terramont Infrastructure Partners is a New York firm, founded in 2020, that invests in North American businesses that own or run essential assets and services. Its four focus areas are energy and power, transportation, environment and digital infrastructure. It looks for companies headquartered in North America with $5 million to $30 million of EBITDA and an enterprise value under $500 million, with proven business models and strong management. Its recent platform deals were majority stakes or large equity commitments, and it keeps the portfolio small so it can work closely with each company. A trade publication reported in October 2025 that its first fund targets $600 million.
In waste, Terramont backs Long Island Waste Services, which combined with National Waste Services in November 2025, and in August 2026 it bought a majority of Hainesport Transportation Group, a New Jersey company that moves waste by rail to distant disposal sites. Owners of smaller haulers, transfer stations or school bus operators are most likely to meet Terramont as add-ons to these platforms or to Switzer-CARTY, its student transportation company.

Greymont’s take
How Terramont Infrastructure Partners fits a seller
Terramont fits owners of asset-heavy service businesses, such as waste haulers, transfer stations, rail-served disposal operators and school bus fleets, that need a lot of capital to grow. It defines infrastructure by traits like essential services, owned assets and barriers to entry, so it may look at companies other buyers would not call infrastructure. In its waste deals, founders and families stayed involved: the Leone family kept a stake when National Waste Services joined Long Island Waste Services, and Hainesport's co-founder remained CEO.
Terramont backs only a handful of companies, so an owner should ask whether a sale would create a new platform or join an existing one. Because its first fund is still being invested and its waste platforms are recent, owners should also ask how much more capital Terramont plans to commit to each platform and how long it expects to hold it.
Questions owners ask
Does Terramont buy waste companies?
Yes. Environment is one of its four focus sectors. It recapitalized Long Island Waste Services in August 2024, backed that company's November 2025 combination with National Waste Services, and bought a majority of New Jersey's Hainesport Transportation Group in August 2026.
What size business does Terramont look for?
Its criteria call for $5 million to $30 million of EBITDA and a North American headquarters, and its about page says it invests in businesses with an enterprise value under $500 million.
Does the owner stay involved after Terramont invests?
In its waste deals, yes. Joseph Leone of National Waste Services joined the combined company's senior leadership and his family kept an ownership stake, and Hainesport co-founder Darryl Caplan continues as CEO.
What else does Terramont own besides waste businesses?
Its other holdings are Switzer-CARTY Transportation (school buses in Canada, now expanding into the US), Bull Moose Capital (natural gas compression), Dispatch Energy (on-site power) and Newbridge Wireless (in-building wireless networks).
