What Laurel Mountain Partners buys
Laurel Mountain Partners is a family-run independent sponsor that has bought and built waste and environmental services companies since 1990. It says it has acquired more than 100 companies across seven platforms, including Liberty Tire Recycling. Its target list covers solid waste and construction and demolition hauling, transfer stations and landfills, recycling, organics and compost, portable toilets and septic, wastewater removal and waste brokerage. As an independent sponsor it raises money deal by deal; its 2025 purchase of Denver hauler 5280 Waste Solutions was financed with Tecum Capital and Comerica Bank.
It invests in two ways. As a sponsor it buys all or part of a company and can use earnouts, seller notes and rollover equity. Through Laurel Mountain Capital, formed in 2024, it provides subordinated debt and minority equity to companies with roughly $10 million or more of revenue and $3 million or more of EBITDA, held for three to five years. A smaller hauler is most likely to meet the firm as a tuck-in for 5280 in Denver or Bruin Waste on Colorado's Western Slope.

Greymont’s take
How Laurel Mountain Partners fits a seller
Laurel Mountain suits owners of hauling, roll-off, recycling, compost or septic businesses who want a buyer that has run waste companies itself. Its partners operate the platforms day to day: Jeff R. Kendall is CEO of 5280 and of Bruin Waste. A sale usually means joining one of those Colorado platforms, as Compost Colorado and Wompost did in late 2025, or anchoring a new regional build. The firm offers full or partial buyouts, earnouts, seller financing and continued equity, so terms can be shaped around the owner, and an owner who wants to keep control can look at its junior capital instead.
Because an independent sponsor lines up equity for each deal, ask who is funding yours and how firm that money is. Also ask about the exit plan: past platforms were sold to buyers such as Waste Connections and Allied Waste, which shapes what any rolled equity is worth.
Questions owners ask
Does Laurel Mountain Partners buy waste hauling companies?
Yes. Environmental services is its only focus. Its target list covers solid waste and C&D hauling, transfer stations and landfills, recycling, organics and compost, portable toilets and septic, wastewater removal and waste brokerage. It currently runs 5280 Waste Solutions in Denver and Bruin Waste in western Colorado.
Can I raise capital from Laurel Mountain without selling control?
Yes. Laurel Mountain Capital, formed in 2024 by Jeff Kendall, Dickson Suit and Peter Kendall, provides senior subordinated debt and minority equity. It looks for about $10 million or more of revenue and $3 million or more of EBITDA, will consider smaller companies case by case, and expects to hold for three to five years.
Who has Laurel Mountain sold its companies to?
Its exits include Lewis Clark Recycling & Disposal to Waste Connections in 2019 and Pro Disposal to Macquarie-backed Coastal Waste Services in 2023. Earlier, Liberty Waste II went to Waste Connections and Liberty Waste I to Allied Waste, and Liberty Tire Recycling was sold to American Securities in 2008.
