What Caymus Equity buys

Caymus Equity is an Atlanta private equity firm, founded in 2001, that makes majority investments in founder- and family-owned business-to-business service companies across the United States. It looks for asset-light companies with blue-collar or white-collar workforces, $10 million to $100 million of revenue and $2 million to $12 million of EBITDA. Its areas of interest include specialty trade and facility services, traffic control and infrastructure safety, testing and inspection, specialty staffing and consulting, IT services and value-added distribution. It invests from Caymus Equity Partners Fund II, its first committed fund, and has made 16 platform investments in all.

Caymus grows each company through add-ons and lets acquired businesses keep their names and local teams. In 2026 its companies bought two traffic control firms for Moeris, two lighting and shading businesses for Valley Lighting and a dental lab for Catalis. A smaller company in one of those lines, or in asbestos and mold remediation, where Caymus owns Forthright Environmental, is most likely to meet the firm as an add-on.

Greymont’s take

How Caymus Equity fits a seller

Caymus suits founders who want to sell a majority stake but keep a real share and stay in charge. At Valley Lighting, the CEO and executive vice president kept significant ownership and continued to lead the company, and Caymus was named to Inc.'s 2024 list of founder-friendly investors. It tends to hold for a long time and keep buying: it owned PureRED for about 14 years and TriplePoint for about six, and says TriplePoint grew from a $25 million single-location contractor to more than $500 million of revenue.

Owners of remediation and abatement businesses should know that Caymus has not announced a new environmental deal since the Lakeshore Environmental Contractors add-on in February 2024, so they should ask whether Forthright is still buying. Any seller should ask how much of Fund II is left to invest and where their company would fit in the firm's holding period.

Questions owners ask

Does Caymus Equity invest in environmental services?

Yes. In November 2023 it bought Quality Environmental Services, a Michigan asbestos, lead and mold remediation company, which added Lakeshore Environmental Contractors in February 2024. The two now operate under the Forthright Environmental name, which Caymus lists as an active holding.

What size company does Caymus look for?

Its stated criteria are $10 million to $100 million of revenue and $2 million to $12 million of EBITDA, in asset-light business-to-business service companies located anywhere in the United States.

Does the founder keep a stake after Caymus invests?

Often. Caymus makes majority investments, and in the May 2025 Valley Lighting deal the CEO and executive vice president kept significant ownership stakes and continued to lead the company.

Do companies acquired by Caymus platforms keep their names?

In its recent add-ons, yes. Richmond Traffic Control, Stay Safe Traffic Control, Commonwealth Blinds & Shades and Midwest Dental Arts all kept their names and teams after joining Caymus platforms.
