What Sentinel Capital Partners buys
Sentinel Capital Partners is a New York private equity firm, founded in 1995, that has raised more than $11.2 billion. It buys midmarket companies in the United States and Canada in four broad areas: industrials, consumer products and services, business services, and healthcare services. Its deals include management buyouts, recapitalizations, corporate carve-outs and take-privates, and once it owns a platform it adds both small tuck-ins and larger add-on acquisitions. Its Capital Solutions arm also lends money or buys preferred stock, taking a minority position.
Its most recent stated limit, from the 2022 close of its $4.3 billion seventh fund, is a ceiling of $65 million of EBITDA per company; it does not publish a minimum. Recent platforms have been large: it sold NSI Industries to Hubbell for $3.0 billion in June 2026 and bought DecoPac from Kohlberg in July 2026. A smaller founder-owned company is most likely to meet Sentinel as an add-on to one of its platforms.

Greymont’s take
How Sentinel Capital Partners fits a seller
Sentinel fits owners of established, sizable companies in niche industrial, consumer or business services markets who want a buyer that is comfortable with complex deals. It often buys from corporations and other private equity firms, as with the fire safety businesses it carved out of Carrier in 2024 and DecoPac in 2026, and it is willing to split a company and sell the pieces, as it did with NSI's HVAC division and the Autronica and Marioff units.
That record shows Sentinel will sell quickly when the price is right: it bought NSI in November 2024 and sold it in June 2026. An owner who rolls equity should ask about the expected holding period, how much debt the deal will carry, and whether any part of the business might be sold off separately. Owners of smaller companies should ask which Sentinel platform could buy them as an add-on.
Questions owners ask
What size companies does Sentinel Capital Partners buy?
When it closed its seventh fund in December 2022, Sentinel said it aims at midmarket businesses earning as much as $65 million of EBITDA. It does not publish a minimum, and its recent platform deals have been well into the middle market.
Does Sentinel only buy from founders?
No. Its recent deals include buying DecoPac from Kohlberg and fire safety businesses carved out of Carrier, and its stated deal types also cover management buyouts, recapitalizations and take-privates of established companies.
Does Sentinel offer anything besides buyouts?
Yes. Through its Capital Solutions strategy it lends money or buys preferred stock as a minority partner, for its own companies and for other privately held and sponsor-backed businesses. It closed an $835 million junior capital fund for this work in 2022.
