What Agellus Capital buys

Agellus Capital is a private equity firm in Clayton, Missouri, outside St. Louis, that buys essential service businesses in the United States and Canada. It builds platforms with $2 million to $25 million of EBITDA and sets no size floor for add-ons. Its three focus areas are business services (facility, professional and industrial services), consumer services such as home services and the auto aftermarket, and supply chain work that covers logistics, infrastructure services and specialty distribution. It takes majority control, then grows each company through a planned run of acquisitions, and it says it will start with a smaller business when a larger platform is not available.

The firm closed its first fund at $400 million in July 2024. Its four current platforms are CompassMSP in managed IT, HighGrove Partners in commercial landscaping, Bluejack in fire and life safety, and Titan Restoration in commercial restoration. Each one publishes add-on criteria, generally $2 million to $75 million of revenue and a solid share of recurring work, so a smaller company is most likely to meet Agellus as an add-on.

Greymont’s take

How Agellus Capital fits a seller

Agellus fits owners of service businesses with steady repeat customers, especially managed IT providers, commercial landscapers, fire protection contractors and commercial restoration firms. Most of its deals since early 2025 have been add-ons, so a sale usually means joining an existing platform and its leadership team. CompassMSP has bought IT providers in New Jersey, the Tri-state area and California, and HighGrove has pushed into Florida. Each platform publishes add-on criteria, including revenue of $2 million to $75 million and a minimum share of recurring revenue, which gives an owner a quick way to test fit before a first call.

Agellus is a young firm investing its first fund. An owner should ask how long it expects to hold the platform, what role the owner and key staff will have after integration, and whether part of the price can be rolled into the larger company.
