What Tamarix Equity Partners buys

Tamarix Equity Partners is the private equity arm of Tamarix, a New York investment group founded in 1993. It backs founder and family owned companies in North America with $15 million to $150 million of revenue and $3 million to $20 million of EBITDA. Deals include control buyouts, recapitalizations that let a family take some money out, succession and estate planning sales, management buyouts, and deals led by an independent sponsor or operating partner. Its focus areas are business services such as commercial recycling, niche manufacturing, value-added distribution, and consumer businesses including restaurants, franchise concepts and residential services.

The equity side adds platforms at a measured pace: Diamond Builders in 2023, Royal Oak Recycling in 2025 and The Halal Shack in 2026. A sister fund on the same site, Tamarix Capital Partners, makes loans and minority equity investments of $5 million to $35 million in US companies with $3 million to $15 million of EBITDA, often for family offices and independent sponsors.

Greymont’s take

How Tamarix Equity Partners fits a seller

Tamarix suits founders and families who want a succession or estate planning answer and are willing to keep leading the company for a while. In its two most recent equity deals the owners stayed: Royal Oak's second-generation CEO partnered with Tamarix in 2025, and Halal Shack's founder still runs that business. Its record with Playa Bowls, which grew from about 113 locations at the 2021 investment to roughly 270 when it was sold to Sycamore Partners in 2024, shows experience scaling franchise and multi-unit concepts.

Owners who are not ready to give up control can ask the sister fund, Tamarix Capital Partners, about a loan or a minority stake instead. Because the equity side has added only about one new company a year lately, an owner should ask how much capital remains in the current fund and how long Tamarix plans to hold the business.

Questions owners ask

What size company does Tamarix Equity Partners look for?

North American companies with $15 million to $150 million of revenue and $3 million to $20 million of EBITDA. Its sister credit fund looks at US companies with $10 million to $100 million of revenue and $3 million to $15 million of EBITDA.

Does Tamarix invest in waste or recycling companies?

Yes. In September 2025 it made an equity investment in Royal Oak Recycling, a Metro Detroit company that hauls, processes and brokers paper, plastic and metal across 22 states, and its strategy names commercial recycling as a target.

Can an owner raise money from Tamarix without selling control?

Yes, through Tamarix Capital Partners, which offers first lien, unitranche, second lien and subordinated loans plus minority equity of $5 million to $35 million, working directly with owners as well as family offices and sponsors.

Does the founder stay after Tamarix invests?

In its recent deals, yes. The founder and CEO of The Halal Shack continues to lead the company after the September 2026 investment, and Royal Oak Recycling's family CEO partnered with Tamarix in 2025 to grow the business.
