What Capstreet buys
Capstreet is a Houston private equity firm, founded in 1990, that buys majority stakes in entrepreneur-owned business services companies with $3 million to $15 million of EBITDA. It invests from researched themes in three broad groups: software built for one industry (construction, government purchasing, auto dealers, trucking, restaurants), tech-enabled services, and industrial services for power, petrochemical and manufacturing plants. It expects owners to reinvest alongside it, and it says it has raised more than $1.3 billion from institutions and made more than 50 platform investments and 200 add-ons.
After buying a platform, Capstreet runs a buy-and-build plan through its Capvalue Framework, adding managers, systems and acquisitions. Recent examples include TOPS Field Services, a turbine maintenance business bought from its founder in March 2026, and The Colt Group, which made four add-ons before Capstreet sold it in September 2026. A smaller company is most likely to meet Capstreet as an add-on to a current platform, or as a new platform if it is founder-owned and already near $3 million of EBITDA.

Greymont’s take
How Capstreet fits a seller
Capstreet fits founders of software, tech-enabled services and industrial maintenance companies who want to sell a majority stake but keep a real piece of the business. Its criteria expect the owner or managers to reinvest, and its releases show founders staying on: the TOPS founder remained CEO, and the RJ Stacey founder stayed after joining Colt. Many of its industrial holdings are based in and around Houston.
Capstreet has sometimes sold majority control while keeping a minority stake, as with HungerRush and PCS Software in 2022, so an owner who rolls equity may see more than one sale before fully cashing out. Hold periods vary: Surgical Notes was sold after about five years, while Ontellus stayed for about ten across two funds. An owner should ask how long Capstreet expects to hold the company and how its research thesis shapes the add-on plan.
