What Salt Creek Capital buys

Salt Creek Capital is a private equity firm in Woodside, California that has been buying privately owned companies since 2009 and counts more than 150 completed transactions. It buys control of profitable businesses with $750,000 to $20 million of EBITDA or annual cash flow, and its recent press releases describe a revenue range of $5 million to $150 million. Companies must be based in the US or Canada, and it avoids distressed businesses and turnarounds.

Salt Creek does control buyouts, majority recapitalizations, corporate carve-outs and family succession deals, plus some growth financing. Most of its recent purchases are manufacturers and distributors, but its criteria also cover B2B and B2C services including IT, healthcare, food, franchising and government work. Its model pairs each deal with an experienced executive partner who can take over as CEO when a retiring owner wants to step away. It owns Omni Recycling, a New Jersey recycling facility, and owned IT Assist, a managed IT franchisee, from 2020 until May 2026.

Greymont’s take

How Salt Creek Capital fits a seller

Salt Creek is built for the owner who wants to retire or step back and has no successor ready. Its partnership model brings in a seasoned executive, often from day one, to run the company, so the founder does not have to stay on for years. At Northrock Industries, Salt Creek executive partner Bret Schmitz became CEO as the co-founder left, and at Craig Wire Products a new CEO arrived with the deal. At MML Diagnostics Packaging, the longtime operations head was promoted to CEO instead.

The firm says it pays competitive prices, closes reliably and will structure a deal for an owner who does not want to roll equity. Its holding periods vary: it sold IT Assist after about six years and Safe in Sound Hearing after about eight. An owner should ask which executive partner would lead the business and what that person plans to change in the first year.

Questions owners ask

What size businesses does Salt Creek Capital buy?

It looks for profitable companies with $750,000 to $20 million of EBITDA or annual cash flow. Its 2026 press releases describe its targets as companies with $5 million to $150 million of revenue.

Who runs the company after Salt Creek buys it?

Salt Creek pairs each deal with an executive partner who can take over day-to-day leadership, which lets a retiring owner leave. In some deals it promotes an existing manager instead, as it did at MML Diagnostics Packaging in May 2026.

Does Salt Creek buy service businesses as well as manufacturers?

Yes, though its recent deals lean toward manufacturing. Its criteria include B2B and B2C services and IT, and its holdings have included Omni Recycling, Capital Building Maintenance and the IT Assist managed IT franchisee.

Does Salt Creek invest in Canada?

Yes. Its criteria allow companies based in the US or Canada, and recent purchases include MK Plastics in Montreal and Infinity RRGB Ventures, a Red Robin franchisee in British Columbia.
