What Prodos Capital buys
Prodos Capital is an investment firm with offices in Nashville and Madrid that buys majority stakes in lower middle market companies, mostly in North America and Western Europe. It calls itself a nontraditional private equity firm, and its insights pages discuss its work as an independent sponsor that leads or joins deals with other sponsors. In the May 2026 Procare Ambulance deal it led alongside Manolin Investment Group, while three other firms supplied growth capital.
Prodos looks for businesses with at least $5 million of EBITDA, gross margins of 25% or more, modest capital needs and recurring revenue, often in fragmented industries where add-ons are possible. It is industry agnostic but avoids high-tech and biotech. Typical situations are founders looking for a long-term steward, family companies without a clear succession plan, and businesses held back by operating or balance sheet problems. Its target hold is 5 to 15 years. Current holdings include an organic soybean processor, a heavy-haul freight broker, a propane and HVAC services company and a medical transport provider.

Greymont’s take
How Prodos Capital fits a seller
Prodos is worth a look for a founder or family that wants a long-term owner rather than a quick resale. Its target hold of 5 to 15 years is longer than most funds, and it says it prefers deals where owners or managers commit to the next stage alongside it. It aims to act as a board-level partner rather than run the business day to day, and it often adds an operating partner with industry experience, as it did with Dr. Thom Mayer at Procare. The firm also says its offers are firm and are not cut back late in the process.
Because Prodos invests deal by deal with co-sponsors and outside capital providers, the buyer group can include several firms. Owners should ask who is putting up the equity and debt, how committed that money is before a letter of intent is signed, and who will sit on the board after closing.
Questions owners ask
What size companies does Prodos Capital buy?
Its criteria call for EBITDA of $5 million or more and gross margins of at least 25%, in businesses that do not need heavy capital spending. It does not publish an upper size limit.
How long does Prodos hold a company?
Its stated target holding period is 5 to 15 years. The firm says its time frame is not fixed in advance by its investors, which gives it room to hold longer than a typical fund.
Does Prodos invest on its own?
Not always. In the May 2026 Procare Ambulance deal it led the investment with Manolin Investment Group, while Tecum Capital, Genesis Park and SharpVue Capital provided growth capital. Its insights page also describes deals it has co-sponsored with other firms.
