What Ridgemont Equity Partners buys

Ridgemont Equity Partners is a Charlotte, North Carolina firm that buys and grows US middle market companies in three areas: business and technology services, healthcare, and what it calls industrial growth. Inside those areas it looks for service, distribution and tech-enabled companies with loyal customers, a niche offering and room to consolidate a fragmented market. Recent targets include IT and managed services providers, environmental remediation and recycling services, insurance claims services, and equipment services for hospitals.

Ridgemont commits up to $500 million of equity into businesses valued from about $100 million to more than $1 billion. It takes majority control or leads minority deals, funds growth and acquisitions, and buys from founders, families and corporate parents. Its fifth flagship fund closed at $3.975 billion in September 2025. A smaller company is most likely to meet Ridgemont as an add-on: the firm reports more than 180 add-on acquisitions over the last decade, made through platforms such as Northstar Recycling, Crete United and Strata Information Group.

Greymont’s take

How Ridgemont Equity Partners fits a seller

Ridgemont suits owners of sizable service or distribution businesses, usually worth $100 million or more, who want a buyer that will keep funding acquisitions after closing. For a smaller company, the realistic path is a sale to one of its platforms. Waste Technology Services took that route in October 2025 when it joined Northstar Recycling, and Crete United actively looks for HVAC, electrical and plumbing contractors to bring into its group.

In its recent platform deals, including ENTACT, CRS and Unosquare, the management teams stayed on and kept a significant stake, and the firm calls rollover by management and selling owners a core part of how it invests. An owner should expect to be asked to reinvest part of the proceeds. Two good questions to ask: how much equity Ridgemont expects you to keep, and how long it plans to hold the business before the next sale.

Questions owners ask

Does Ridgemont Equity Partners buy IT services companies?

Yes. In January 2025 it led an investment in Strata Information Group, a managed IT services provider for colleges and universities, which bought BHA Technologies right after closing. In June 2025 it recapitalized Unosquare, a nearshore digital engineering firm.

Does Ridgemont invest in waste and environmental services?

Yes. Environmental, power and infrastructure services is a named focus inside its industrial growth practice. It has backed Northstar Recycling since 2021, which added Waste Technology Services in October 2025, and it bought the remediation contractor ENTACT in August 2026.

How large a company does Ridgemont look for?

Its stated criteria are businesses valued from about $100 million to more than $1 billion, with equity commitments of up to $500 million. Smaller businesses usually fit as add-ons to one of its existing platforms.

Do owners and managers keep a stake after Ridgemont invests?

Usually. In the ENTACT, CRS and Unosquare deals the management teams stayed significantly invested alongside Ridgemont, and its Fund V announcement describes rollover by management and selling shareholders as a core part of its approach.
