What Great Range Capital buys
Great Range Capital is a private equity firm in Mission Woods, Kansas, just outside Kansas City, led by founders Ryan Sprott and Paul Maxwell. It invests mainly in the greater Midwest, in niche manufacturing, business and industrial services, consumer and retail, and healthcare services. Its sellers are usually families and founders planning retirement, passing the company between generations or looking for a partner to grow. Deal structures include buyouts, recapitalizations, build-ups, significant minority stakes and structured equity. Its third fund closed at its $250 million hard cap in November 2023.
The firm's stated floor is $10 million of revenue and $3 million of EBITDA, though its announcements describe a main target of $20 million to $150 million of revenue. Current holdings include RUI Holdings in fire and water restoration, Citadel Security, Spirit Miller in vehicle driveaway services, Synetic Technologies in IT asset disposal and recycling, and Burns Auto Group in auto repair. Smaller companies often join as add-ons, as Meridian Restoration did with RUI in January 2026 and two security firms did with Citadel.

Greymont’s take
How Great Range Capital fits a seller
Great Range suits Midwest founders and families with at least $3 million of EBITDA who want a nearby buyer that leaves the company's name and culture alone. Meridian Restoration's president said Great Range kept the brand and let the team keep working as before, and Spirit Miller's family owners kept leadership roles when the firm invested in September 2025. Its network of regional executives, the Market Ambassadors, also sources deals, as it did with Citadel Security.
A sale often brings a new CEO or chairman from the firm's network, as at Spirit Miller, plus funding for follow-on acquisitions. Owners should ask whether they will keep running the company or hand off to an outside executive, and how much equity they are expected to roll into the new structure.
Questions owners ask
What size company does Great Range Capital look for?
Its investment profile asks for at least $10 million of revenue and $3 million of EBITDA. Its announcements describe a main target of Midwestern companies with $20 million to $150 million of revenue.
Does Great Range buy restoration companies?
Yes. It backs RUI Holdings, a Lenexa, Kansas restoration group that includes RUI Restoration and Atlas Restoration Specialists, and RUI added Atlanta's Meridian Restoration in January 2026.
Will Great Range take a minority stake?
Yes. Its investment profile lists significant minority investments and structured equity alongside buyouts, recapitalizations and build-ups, so owners who want only partial liquidity can be considered.
Does Great Range invest outside the Midwest?
Its focus is the greater Midwest, but its companies reach further. Meridian Restoration is based in Atlanta, and Citadel Security serves clients in Colorado, Missouri, Iowa, Kentucky and Utah.
