What Court Square Capital Partners buys

Court Square Capital Partners is a New York private equity firm that has been investing since 1979 and managed about $10.1 billion at the end of 2025. It buys control of established middle market companies in four areas: business services, healthcare, industrials, and technology and telecom. Its stated target is an equity check of $75 million to $350 million in a business valued at $150 million to $1.5 billion, which puts it well above the lower middle market. In April 2026 it closed Fund V at $3.8 billion, its largest fund, for control buyouts in those same sectors.

Court Square buys from founders, families and other private equity owners, and it often leaves sellers with a real stake: AVANT's two co-founders kept significant ownership when the firm invested in December 2025. A smaller company is most likely to meet Court Square as an add-on to one of its platforms. Thrive, its managed IT and security provider, bought five firms in 2025, including Secured Network Services, Baroan Technologies and Worksighted.

Greymont’s take

How Court Square Capital Partners fits a seller

Court Square suits owners of sizable, growing companies who want a well-funded control partner and are open to keeping a stake. Its recent platforms, such as DCCM with more than 1,100 employees and CallTower with over 5,000 customers, show the scale it looks for, so most founder-owned businesses will meet it through a platform rather than as a new investment. Owners of managed IT or cybersecurity firms are the clearest fit today, since Thrive kept buying through 2025.

The firm puts founder partnerships at the center of its pitch and was named to Inc.'s founder-friendly investor list in 2023, 2024 and 2025. It also invests next to other sponsors, sharing control of Soleo Health with WindRose and owning Thrive with Berkshire Partners. An owner should ask who will hold control after closing and how long the firm expects to own the business, since Court Square used a continuation fund in 2024 to keep PlayCore longer.

Questions owners ask

How big a company does Court Square buy?

Its About page lists a target equity investment of $75 million to $350 million in companies with enterprise values of $150 million to $1.5 billion. Smaller businesses usually fit as add-ons to one of its existing platforms.

Does Court Square buy IT services and managed service providers?

Yes. It has backed Thrive, a managed IT and cybersecurity provider, since a 2021 recapitalization, and Thrive announced five acquisitions in 2025, including Secured Network Services, Abacode, Baroan Technologies, VitalCORE and Worksighted. It also owns Velosio, a Microsoft Dynamics services and managed services firm.

Can a founder keep a stake after selling to Court Square?

Often, yes. When Court Square invested in AVANT in December 2025, the two co-founders kept significant ownership and continued to run strategy and daily operations. At Soleo Health in February 2025, the founding team recapitalized the business with Court Square and WindRose and stayed in charge.

What is Court Square's latest fund?

Court Square Capital Partners Fund V closed in April 2026 with about $3.8 billion of commitments, above its $3.0 billion target. The firm says the fund will make control buyouts in business services, healthcare, industrials and technology, and it had six investments committed at the close.
