What Brixey & Meyer Capital buys

Brixey & Meyer Capital is a Cincinnati private investment firm started in 2015. It has raised more than $200 million of committed capital and had completed 19 acquisitions by mid-2025. It buys lower middle market companies with $2 million to $10 million of recurring EBITDA located in the Eastern and Central time zones, and it sets no minimum size for add-ons. It looks for a niche with room to grow and a management team that will either stay or help hand the business to new leaders over a set transition period.

Most of its current companies distribute, install or service equipment, or move freight: an automotive shop equipment platform in the Carolinas and Virginia, HESCO in municipal water equipment, a pre-engineered steel building platform, the Cincinnati logistics firms CityDash and Gateway Distribution, and MasVida Healthcare Solutions. BMC built its shop equipment platform from three founder-owned companies, PME, Smith Equipment and UDG, and each seller kept a stake. A company below $2 million of EBITDA fits only as an add-on.

Greymont’s take

How Brixey & Meyer Capital fits a seller

BMC suits an owner in the Eastern or Central time zone with a steady, recurring-revenue business who wants to sell a majority but stay invested. In its recent deals the founders kept ownership stakes, and several kept running their local markets. BMC often pairs founder-owned companies with an outside leader, as it did when it named a 20-year industry veteran as CEO of the shop equipment platform. An owner who wants to step back can do so, since BMC accepts sellers who stay only for a transition period.

BMC's funds have been small, from $18.3 million to $66 million, and its newest capital raise is not described on its website. An owner should ask which fund would make the investment, how much of it is still available, and how long BMC usually holds a company. Unistrut Midwest, bought in May 2022 and sold in December 2024, is one recent reference point.

Questions owners ask

What size company does Brixey & Meyer Capital buy?

For a new platform it wants $2 million to $10 million of recurring, sustainable EBITDA. There is no minimum for add-on acquisitions made by a company BMC already owns.

Where does BMC invest?

Its criteria limit it to companies located in the Eastern and Central time zones. Its current holdings include companies in Ohio, Michigan, North Carolina and Virginia.

Do owners keep a stake when they sell to BMC?

Often. The sellers of PME, Smith Equipment, UDG and HESCO all kept ownership stakes, and the former owners of Unistrut Midwest stayed partners until BMC sold the company to NEFCO.

Does BMC still own an access control business?

No. BMC built Guardian Access Solutions, formerly Access Control Systems, into a gate, parking and access control integrator through several add-ons and sold it to CenterOak Partners in August 2023.
