What Silversmith Capital Partners buys

Silversmith is a Boston growth equity firm, started in 2015, that backs founder-led companies in two areas: software and information services, and healthcare IT and services. Its stated targets are more than $10 million of revenue, growth above 20% a year, and breakeven or better results, usually at companies that grew without much outside money. It writes checks of $20 million to $125 million, and its funds take both minority and majority stakes. The firm says more than 70% of its capital goes in as a company's first institutional investor.

Silversmith manages more than $5 billion, including the $1.7 billion Fund V it closed in July 2025. A company below its size floor is most likely to meet Silversmith as an add-on to one of its holdings. Earned, its wealth platform for doctors, has bought tax, insurance, legal and advisory firms; Fortified Health Security, a healthcare security services provider, bought Latitude in 2025; and TMA Systems, Net Health and Validity buy other software companies.

Greymont’s take

How Silversmith Capital Partners fits a seller

Silversmith suits the founder of a profitable, fast-growing software or healthcare technology company who wants a first outside partner without handing over the business. Many of its new deals are growth rounds where the founder stays in charge, such as Rentsync in 2025 and Perry Weather in 2026, and the firm reports that 89% of the founders it backs stay on. Owners of smaller firms that serve doctors, or of healthcare security firms, are more likely to sell to one of its platforms, such as Earned or Fortified Health Security.

Holding periods vary. Talon. One was sold to Adyen about a year after Silversmith invested, while Appfire and Apryse are still held after partial sales. An owner should ask whether the deal is a minority or majority stake, what approval rights come with it, and who decides when the company is sold.

Questions owners ask

What size company does Silversmith invest in?

Its stated criteria are more than $10 million of revenue, growth above 20% a year, and breakeven or profitable operations. It invests $20 million to $125 million in each company.

Does Silversmith take majority control?

Not always. Its Fund V announcement says the fund makes both minority and majority investments, and its recent new deals, including $60 million in SkillCorner and $110 million in Perry Weather, were growth rounds with the founders still leading the companies.

Does Silversmith buy IT services or cybersecurity firms?

Through its portfolio, yes. Fortified Health Security, a managed security services provider for the healthcare industry, is a current holding and bought the cybersecurity advisory firm Latitude in September 2025. Med Tech Solutions, an IT provider for healthcare organizations, is also a current holding.

Does Silversmith buy wealth management or accounting firms?

Its portfolio company Earned, a wealth manager for doctors, has been buying firms that serve medical professionals: Chahal & Associates, the tax and accounting firm Schwartz & Schwartz, PearsonRavitz in disability and life insurance, Dental & Medical Counsel in legal services, and OJM Group, which added nearly $1 billion of client assets.
