What ScaleCo Capital buys
ScaleCo Capital is a Cleveland private equity firm that buys control of small, founder-led companies. Brendan Anderson started it in 2018 as a spin-out of his earlier firm, Evolution Capital Partners. It focuses on three areas: business and tech-enabled services, value-added distribution and assembly, and education, training and compliance. A new platform must be based in the Great Lakes region so the Cleveland team can work with it in person, but add-ons can be anywhere. It invests from a committed fund, ScaleCo Fund I, whose current companies are Ampica Energy Solutions, PSP Metrics, Innoplast and Safety Controls Technology.
ScaleCo looks for companies with up to $50 million of revenue and up to $5 million of EBITDA, and puts in up to $25 million of equity, bringing in co-investors when a deal needs more. Deals are control buyouts or growth equity. There is no minimum size for add-ons, so even a very small business can sell to one of its platforms. Recent examples are energy procurement firms bought by Ampica and a traffic safety products maker bought by Innoplast.

Greymont’s take
How ScaleCo Capital fits a seller
ScaleCo fits the owner of a small Great Lakes business, often well under $5 million of EBITDA, who wants to sell control to a local buyer that stays closely involved after closing. The Cleveland team helps with leadership, financial reporting, sales, technology and add-on deals, and runs its companies on the EOS management system. Owners of very small service, distribution or training firms elsewhere in the country can also fit as add-ons, since ScaleCo sets no minimum size for those.
ScaleCo often brings other capital into its companies: Tecum Capital and Agility Equity Partners have both invested alongside it in TPI Efficiency. An owner should ask who else will own part of the business, how much debt the deal carries, and whether ScaleCo plans to install a new chief executive or operating partner, as it did at Safety Controls Technology, where a ScaleCo partner became president.
Questions owners ask
What size companies does ScaleCo Capital buy?
Platform companies can have up to $50 million of revenue and up to $5 million of EBITDA, and ScaleCo invests up to $25 million of equity in each, with co-investors if needed. Add-on acquisitions have no minimum size.
Does ScaleCo only buy companies in Ohio?
No, but a new platform must be headquartered in the Great Lakes region, close enough for the Cleveland team to work with in person. Add-ons can be anywhere; Innoplast's October 2026 add-on was based in San Antonio, Texas.
Has ScaleCo sold a company recently?
Yes. In January 2025 it announced the sale of Cap City Dental Lab, a Columbus, Ohio dental lab it bought in 2018. While ScaleCo owned it, the lab opened four new locations and bought three other labs.
