What Monomoy Capital Partners buys

Monomoy Capital Partners is a New York private equity and credit firm, founded in 2005, that manages more than $6 billion. Its private equity side buys majority stakes in North American manufacturing, distribution and services businesses, and it says about 80% of its deals have been family-owned companies or corporate carve-outs. The main range is $75 million to $2 billion or more of revenue and $15 million to $200 million or more of EBITDA. Recent buys run from founder-led trailer and oilfield chemical companies to Jiffy Lube, the quick lube franchisor it bought from Shell for about $1.3 billion in July 2026.

For smaller companies the key change is Monomoy Family Fund I, which closed at $589 million in October 2026 to buy family-owned businesses, carve-outs and take-privates worth $200 million or less. Monomoy also adds family businesses to its platforms, such as Qwick Kurb for Valtir and Dave Carter & Associates for Thetford. A separate credit team buys senior debt of middle market companies rather than equity.

Greymont’s take

How Monomoy Capital Partners fits a seller

Monomoy fits family owners of manufacturing, distribution or industrial service businesses who want a buyer with a large in-house operating team, which it puts at more than 20 people, and a long record with carve-outs and first institutional deals. Founders and families often keep a role: Creedence's co-founder kept a significant stake and its leaders stayed on, and Astro Shapes was run by a second-generation family CEO throughout Monomoy's ownership.

The Family Fund opens the door to companies worth $200 million or less, but Monomoy still describes its range as starting around $15 million of EBITDA, so smaller owners are more likely to fit as add-ons to a platform like Valtir, Thetford or Mac Papers. Owners should ask which fund would make the investment, since that shapes deal size and hold period. Owners of quick lube or repair shops should know Jiffy Lube is a franchisor, and Monomoy has not announced any shop purchases under it.

Questions owners ask

What size companies does Monomoy Capital Partners buy?

Its main strategy targets $75 million to $2 billion or more of revenue and $15 million to $200 million or more of EBITDA. Family Fund I, closed in October 2026, focuses on deals with enterprise values of $200 million or less.

Does Monomoy buy family-owned businesses?

Yes. It says about 80% of its acquisitions have been family-owned businesses or corporate carve-outs, and in October 2026 it closed a $589 million fund aimed at family-owned and other lower middle market deals.

Does Monomoy own auto service businesses?

Yes. In July 2026 it completed its purchase of Jiffy Lube, the quick lube and auto service franchisor with more than 2,000 service centers in North America, from Shell for about $1.3 billion.

Does Monomoy take minority stakes?

Its private equity strategy lists majority ownership as its transaction type. Its separate credit strategy buys first lien loans and senior secured notes of middle market companies rather than equity.
