What Crest Rock Partners buys

Crest Rock Partners is a Denver private equity firm, started in 2019, that takes control-oriented stakes in lower middle market companies in three areas: software and technology, IT and business services, and industrial and manufacturing. In practice the industrial side includes infrastructure service contractors as well as makers and specialty metals suppliers. Its criteria page lists equity checks of $25 million to $75 million, with room to stretch to $100 million, and its July 2026 fact sheet targets companies valued at $20 million to $200 million that are based in North America. A company does not have to be profitable, and the firm keeps debt light.

Crest Rock does management buyouts, recapitalizations, corporate carve-outs, growth investments and deals for businesses in transition. Its partners come from operating roles, and after closing they work with management on a detailed operating plan. A smaller company is most likely to meet Crest Rock as an add-on to a platform such as Opti9 in managed cloud services or Lumin8 in traffic signal services, both of which have bought several companies.

Greymont’s take

How Crest Rock Partners fits a seller

Crest Rock suits owners of software, managed IT or cloud services, specialty metals distribution or infrastructure services businesses who want a buyer that will take control but still fund a growth plan. Several of its deals kept founders invested: the founders and executive teams of PPi and Relocity put money in alongside Crest Rock, and the founder of Andrew Site Work said he picked the firm because it shared his commitment to his community and his employees. The firm also has a long record of buying divisions from larger companies, including the 2026 NexForm carve-out.

Because its smallest stated equity check is $25 million, a smaller business is more likely to join an existing platform such as Opti9 or Lumin8 than to become a new one. Owners should ask how much of the company Crest Rock wants to own, what role the founder keeps after closing, and how the firm's operating plan will change day-to-day decisions.

Questions owners ask

What size companies does Crest Rock Partners invest in?

Its criteria page lists equity investments of $25 million to $75 million, and up to $100 million for the right deal. Its July 2026 fact sheet puts target company values at $20 million to $200 million, and it says profitability is not required.

Does Crest Rock buy IT services or managed cloud companies?

Yes. IT and business services is one of its three target industries. It created Opti9, a managed hybrid cloud provider, by merging its holdings Webair and Jelecos in 2022, and Opti9 has since added HostedBizz and, in November 2025, Aptible.

Do founders stay invested after a Crest Rock deal?

Often. In its PPi and Relocity growth investments the founders and executive teams invested alongside the firm, and the founder of Andrew Site Work described the June 2026 deal as a partnership for the company's next stage of growth.

Does Crest Rock buy construction or infrastructure services businesses?

Yes, through its industrial group. Lumin8 Transportation Technologies, its traffic signal and transportation systems services platform, bought Lightspeed, Bean Electrical, Watson Electrical's signal division and Rommel Infrastructure from 2023 to 2024, and in 2026 the firm backed Florida utility contractor Andrew Site Work.
