What Bregal Sagemount buys
Bregal Sagemount is a growth equity firm based in New York, with a second office in Palo Alto, that has raised about $11 billion since it started in 2012. It backs profitable, fast-growing companies with recurring or repeat revenue in software, healthcare IT and services, financial services and technology, digital infrastructure, and business and consumer services. Its published floor is about $7 million of revenue with growth above 10% a year. Equity checks run from $20 million to $400 million, and a separate credit strategy lends $15 million to $100 million.
Sagemount is flexible on structure. It will take a majority or a minority stake, buy out a founder, pay for acquisitions, or recapitalize a company so shareholders can take money off the table, and it usually leads the deal. It closed Fund V at $3.5 billion in March 2026. Smaller companies are most likely to meet it through Basecamp, a $500 million fund for $20 million to $75 million equity checks, or as an add-on to a portfolio company such as Enhesa.

Greymont’s take
How Bregal Sagemount fits a seller
Bregal Sagemount suits founders of profitable software and tech-enabled service businesses who have never taken outside money and want a partner rather than a clean exit. The firm says it has been the first institutional investor in about 80% of its deals. Its recent deals show the range: majority growth investments in Harbor Compliance (February 2026) and A-Rent (September 2026), and a minority stake in 360 Advanced (January 2025).
For a company with steady recurring revenue and more than $7 million in sales, that flexibility matters. An owner can sell a minority piece now and keep control, or sell a majority and keep a meaningful stake for a second sale later. Recent exits went to KKR and Main Capital Partners. Owners should ask early which pool the money comes from (the flagship fund, Basecamp or the credit strategy), and what the firm expects for leadership, since Harbor Compliance named a new CEO alongside the deal.
Questions owners ask
What size company does Bregal Sagemount invest in?
Its published criteria call for at least $7 million of revenue, growth above 10% a year, and profits at the company or unit level. Equity checks range from $20 million to $400 million, and its Basecamp fund writes $20 million to $75 million checks.
Does Bregal Sagemount take minority stakes?
Yes. It says it is equally comfortable as a majority or minority partner. Its January 2025 investment in 360 Advanced was a minority growth investment from Basecamp, while its 2026 deals for Harbor Compliance and A-Rent were majority investments.
Does Bregal Sagemount invest in IT services companies?
Yes, alongside its core software focus. Current holdings include Critical Start, a managed detection and response provider, FullStack Labs, a nearshore software development firm, and Opex Technologies, an IT advisory firm it backed through Basecamp in May 2025.
What is Bregal Sagemount's latest fund?
It closed Bregal Sagemount V at its $3.5 billion hard cap on March 2, 2026, after just over four months of fundraising. Fund IV, its previous flagship fund, had closed at $2.65 billion.
