What Strength Capital Partners buys
Strength Capital Partners started in Birmingham, Michigan in 2000 and now also has offices in Cincinnati and Denver. It buys control of US companies with $4 million to $25 million of EBITDA in manufacturing, distribution, infrastructure and industrial services. It says it does not make minority investments and avoids technology, software and healthcare. The firm reports $711 million of equity invested across 35 portfolio companies since it began.
Its main playbook is what it calls industrial consolidation: buy a solid platform, then fold in smaller, often family-owned companies to build a larger and more diversified business. Recent platforms include Kelchner, an Ohio excavation contractor bought from John Wood Group in 2025, and Grand Equipment, a Michigan construction equipment dealer bought later that year. A smaller owner is most likely to meet Strength as an add-on, for example to Truesdell in bridge and infrastructure maintenance, Western States Reclamation in water-focused environmental work, or ESP Associates in engineering and surveying.

Greymont’s take
How Strength Capital Partners fits a seller
Strength fits owners of contractors, equipment dealers, distributors and industrial service firms who want to sell control to a patient partner. Most of its growth comes from add-ons, so a family business will often join an existing platform rather than become a new one. The March 2026 Beck-Reit deal is a good example: the founding family sold its Austin civil contractor to Truesdell, which used it to enter Texas, and the family spoke of the business continuing to grow for its employees.
The firm says it gives management teams room to run their operations and steps in only where needed. In 2025 it also showed it will keep a strong company longer than one fund's life, moving ESP Associates into a continuation vehicle. An owner should ask which platform the business would join, who would lead it after closing, and how long Strength expects to hold that platform.
Questions owners ask
What size companies does Strength Capital buy?
It looks for US businesses with $4 million to $25 million of EBITDA, either as new platforms or as add-ons to companies it already owns, and it says it does not take minority stakes.
Which industries does Strength Capital avoid?
Its approach page says it stays out of technology, software, healthcare and other speculative areas, and focuses instead on manufacturing, distribution, infrastructure and industrial services.
Does Strength Capital own an environmental services business?
Yes. It owns Western States Reclamation, a Colorado environmental reclamation and specialty civil contractor focused on water resources. It added the ecological consulting firm ERC in 2023 and Naranjo Civil Constructors in 2024 under the Western States Water name.
Does Strength buy companies from larger corporations or other investors?
Yes. In 2025 it bought Kelchner, an Ohio excavation and civil construction firm, from the engineering group John Wood Group, and it bought Grand Equipment from another private equity firm, Cognitive Capital Partners.
