What Stonebridge Partners buys
Stonebridge Partners is a White Plains, New York firm that has been buying niche manufacturing, service and distribution businesses since 1986. It counts more than $930 million invested across 78 transactions, 36 of them platform companies and 42 add-ons. Its stated areas of interest are infrastructure products and services, specialty manufacturing, building products and aerospace. Today it owns an electrical contractor, a mechanical and HVAC services firm, a concrete formwork rental company and several manufacturers.
The firm takes control, or shares control with co-investors, through majority recapitalizations, corporate carve-outs and management buyouts. Its key statistics page gives a ceiling of about $200 million of revenue and an EBITDA range of $3 million to $20 million, while its recent press releases describe a $3 million to $15 million target. Platform companies must be based in the United States. A smaller business can still meet Stonebridge as an add-on: the firm says it will consider add-ons of any size, and Paramount Mechanical is actively buying HVAC service companies in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.

Greymont’s take
How Stonebridge Partners fits a seller
Stonebridge suits a family-owned company in building products, infrastructure services or specialty manufacturing whose owners want liquidity but plan to stay involved. In the CVM Electric deal in January 2026, the founder and his two sons kept their leadership roles and a significant ownership stake, and the lenders on the deal also put in equity. Stonebridge's Operating Partners, several of whom once ran its portfolio companies, work with management on systems, sourcing and acquisitions.
The firm also tends to hold for a long time. It owned Specialty Bakers for almost 15 years and ADI for about nine. HVAC and mechanical contractors in Virginia and nearby states should know that Paramount Mechanical has bought two local service firms since late 2024 and says it wants more. Owners should ask how long Stonebridge expects to hold the business and how the equity they keep will be valued at the next sale.
Questions owners ask
What size company does Stonebridge Partners buy?
Its key statistics page calls for revenue of up to about $200 million and EBITDA of $3 million to $20 million, though its 2025 and 2026 press releases give a $3 million to $15 million range. It will consider add-on acquisitions of any size for its current companies.
Does the family stay involved after a Stonebridge recapitalization?
Often, yes. In the January 2026 CVM Electric deal the founder and his sons kept their leadership roles and a significant stake. The founders of Architectural Polymers and MetalForming also stayed on the board as the largest individual shareholders.
Is Stonebridge buying HVAC companies?
Yes, through Paramount Mechanical, its Manassas, Virginia mechanical and HVAC services company. Paramount bought Math Mechanical in November 2024 and Comfort Solutions of Tidewater in May 2025, and Stonebridge says it is looking for more service-focused HVAC businesses in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.
