What Sky Peak Capital buys

Sky Peak Capital is a small Boston investment firm that buys family-owned and founder-led industrial companies in the United States. Its target list covers manufacturing, value-added distribution and business services, and so far its holdings are both precision manufacturers: Excelus Holdings, which makes machined parts for aerospace, defense and medical customers, and TriStar Plastics, which makes engineered plastic parts and bearings. It looks for companies with $10 million to $50 million of revenue and long-standing customer relationships.

Sky Peak says it wants to be an evergreen owner that keeps companies for decades rather than selling on a fixed fund clock, and it backs its deals with outside institutional capital partners. Sellers are encouraged to keep a stake so they share in later growth. The team works hands-on with owners after closing. A smaller machine shop or component maker may also fit as an add-on to Excelus, which plans selective acquisitions.

Greymont’s take

How Sky Peak Capital fits a seller

Sky Peak suits an owner of a family or founder-run manufacturing company who wants to sell but cares about what happens to the business afterwards. It says it plans to hold companies for the long term, it asks sellers to keep a stake, and its partners work closely with management. In both recent deals the founders or prior leaders stayed involved: TriStar's founder praised the firm's hands-on style, and the former CEO of D&G Machine Products became CEO of the combined Excelus.

The firm is small, with two holdings, so each deal gets close attention from the founder and his operating partners. Owners should ask how the evergreen structure works in practice, since Sky Peak uses outside institutional capital and lenders, and when and how a retained stake could be turned into cash.

Questions owners ask

What size company does Sky Peak Capital look for?

Its website says it looks for lower middle market companies with roughly $10 million to $50 million of revenue, a strong base of repeat customers and room to grow. It does not publish an EBITDA range.

Does the owner keep a stake after Sky Peak buys the company?

Sky Peak says it wants owners to keep a personal investment and stay involved, and it pitches a retained stake as a way to share in later gains, which it calls a second bite at the apple.

What has Sky Peak bought recently?

It bought TriStar Plastics, a Massachusetts maker of engineered plastic parts and bearings, in April 2025. In May 2026 it formed Excelus Holdings by combining its Excelus machining business with D&G Machine Products and Millennium Precision.
