What Olympus Partners buys
Olympus Partners is a Stamford, Connecticut firm founded in 1988 that has raised more than $12 billion across eight funds, most recently the $3.5 billion Olympus Growth Fund VIII in 2025. It calls itself a generalist, with long experience in healthcare, industrials, consumer brands, restaurants, financial services and business services. It looks for three things: a strong management team, room to grow, and a leading position in a defensible niche. More than 80 percent of its capital has gone into control buyouts where it was the sole or lead investor, and the rest into growth capital.
Its preferred equity investment runs from $75 million for growth deals to $500 million or more for buyouts, and it adds only three or four new platforms a year. That puts most founder-owned businesses below its range for a new platform. A smaller company is more likely to meet Olympus as an add-on: its portfolio companies have completed more than 190 add-ons, including International Wire Group's 2025 agreement to buy Hussey Copper.

Greymont’s take
How Olympus Partners fits a seller
Olympus suits owners of larger, established companies with a clear niche and a capable management team, since its smallest stated check is $75 million. It says it supports leadership with resources and aligned equity but does not get involved in day-to-day management, which suits a team that plans to keep running the business. Some recent deals were purchases from other investors, such as Network Connex from ORIX Capital Partners in 2026, while the Vesta Foodservice founder stayed alongside the new CEO after Olympus invested in April 2026.
A smaller business is most likely to reach Olympus as an add-on to a holding such as Heniff, EyeSouth Partners or Tank Holding. Owners should ask whether Olympus would buy a majority or provide growth capital, and how long it tends to hold. It has shown it will come back to a company it knows: it sold Tank Holding in 2012 and bought it again in 2019.
Questions owners ask

Its strategy page gives a preferred equity investment of $75 million for growth capital deals up to $500 million or more for buyouts. The firm also says it limits itself to three or four new platform investments each year.
Does Olympus buy control of companies?
Mostly. The firm says more than 80 percent of its invested capital has gone into control middle market buyouts where it was the sole or lead investor, with the remaining 20 percent in growth capital financings.
What has Olympus bought recently?
Since January 2025 it has announced Accelevation, a data center infrastructure provider; PAI Pharma, a maker of generic oral liquid medicines; Vesta Foodservice, a Western U.S. specialty foodservice distributor; and Network Connex, a fiber installation firm serving data centers.
