What Mill Point Capital buys
Mill Point Capital is a New York private equity firm that takes control of lower middle market companies in three sectors: business services, industrials and IT services, anywhere in North America. It reports about $3.5 billion of total commitments across its funds, including Fund III, which filled its $1.7 billion hard cap in October 2024. After closing, the firm pairs each company with Executive Partners and Functional Experts, who are former operators that help carry out a value creation plan.
The firm is best known for corporate carve-outs, and the July 2026 purchase of Total Safety's Supplies & Solutions division was its 20th. Still, its home page counts more than 70 family or founder-owned businesses among its acquisitions. Mill Point says it is comfortable with messy situations: a company without a full management team, an owner who never hired a banker, or a business coming off a sale process that fell apart. It does not publish revenue or EBITDA limits. Smaller companies usually meet Mill Point as add-ons to platforms such as Vehicle Management Solutions, AeriTek, Voltaris or GlacierPoint.

Greymont’s take
How Mill Point Capital fits a seller
Mill Point suits owners who want a full exit and expect real change after closing. The firm puts former executives on the board and works from a formal value creation plan. When it sold Prime Pensions in 2024, it pointed to new senior hires, new technology systems and a bigger sales team as the work it did during three years of ownership. Founders can stay: Proficium's founder kept the CEO job when Mill Point invested in 2024.
It is also a realistic buyer for a company with gaps, such as no second in command or no prior sale process, because the firm says it targets those situations. Owners of IT services, towing and roadside, refrigeration or distribution businesses may fit as add-ons to an existing platform. Ask which Executive Partner would work with your company, what changes they plan for the first year, and how long Mill Point expects to own the business before selling it.
Questions owners ask
Does Mill Point Capital buy founder-owned businesses or only corporate carve-outs?
Both. Carve-outs are a specialty, with 20 completed as of July 2026, but the firm's home page counts more than 70 family or founder-owned businesses among its acquisitions, and it lists families and founders among the sellers it works with.
Is Mill Point active in IT services?
Yes. IT services is one of its three target sectors. Current IT holdings include Pythian, ServicePoint, CrashPlan and SS8, which it bought in June 2025, and it sold the IT services platform Verinext to Arctiq in February 2026.
How large is Mill Point's current fund?
Mill Point Capital Partners III closed in October 2024 with about $1.7 billion of commitments, at its hard cap, less than five months after launch. The firm reports about $3.5 billion of total commitments across its funds.
