What Fort Point Capital buys

Fort Point Capital is a Boston firm that buys service businesses in the lower middle market. It wants pure service companies, and also product companies whose service and support keep customers coming back. Its target list is wide: business services, IT services and software, transportation and logistics, value-added distribution, marketing services, training and education, field and route-based services, testing and engineering, and healthcare and pharma services. Recent platforms include Boston Green, which hauls hazardous and non-hazardous waste and does industrial cleaning, and NewBold Technologies, which installs, repairs and supports point-of-sale and payment equipment.

For a new platform, Fort Point says it will pay up to $125 million of enterprise value and put in up to $50 million of equity, usually through a control buyout or a recapitalization of a family or founder-owned company. It has raised more than $625 million across three funds since 2010. It does not publish a minimum size. A smaller company is most likely to meet Fort Point as an add-on, since its companies average about 2.5 acquisitions each.

Greymont’s take

How Fort Point Capital fits a seller

Fort Point suits a founder or family owner of a service business who wants to step back or plan a succession and is open to selling control. Its deals often start as a recapitalization alongside the founders and managers, as at Boston Green in March 2026, and the firm then uses the company to buy smaller competitors. Jones Lake Management made 15 acquisitions in three years before Fort Point sold it in December 2025.

Holds have ranged from about three to eight years: Jones Lake Management was bought in 2022 and Strata Information Group in 2021, while EventLink was held from 2017 to 2025. Every recent exit went to another private equity firm. An owner who keeps a stake should ask how long Fort Point plans to hold, what the incentive plan for managers looks like, and which add-ons it expects to fund.

Questions owners ask

How big a company does Fort Point Capital buy?

For a new platform it targets companies worth up to $125 million and invests up to $50 million of equity. Its 2022 Fund III announcement described its targets as companies under $100 million of enterprise value. It does not publish a revenue or EBITDA floor.

Does Fort Point buy environmental or waste services companies?

Yes. In March 2026 it recapitalized Boston Green Company of Freetown, Massachusetts, which transports and disposes of hazardous and non-hazardous waste and provides industrial cleaning and emergency response across New England and the Mid-Atlantic.

Does Fort Point invest in IT services businesses?

Yes. It bought NewBold Technologies, which provides on-site and depot support for point-of-sale and payment devices, in August 2024, and NewBold added Spencer Technologies in August 2026. Fort Point also owned Strata Information Group, a higher education IT services firm, from 2021 until January 2025.

Who has Fort Point sold its companies to?

Its recent buyers have been other private equity firms: Ridgemont Equity Partners bought Strata Information Group in January 2025, Serata Capital Partners and Paceline Equity Partners bought EventLink in October 2025, and Leonard Green & Partners bought Jones Lake Management in December 2025.
