What Council Capital buys
Council Capital is a Nashville private equity firm that invests only in healthcare. It backs two kinds of companies: healthcare services businesses, such as disability and hospice care, behavioral health, autism therapy and workers' compensation case management, and healthcare technology or tech-enabled services, such as billing, practice management and claims software. Its home page says it looks for companies that are growing, already EBITDA positive, often bootstrapped and founder-led, and worth up to $100 million. Its 2024 releases put the range at $10 million to $100 million of enterprise value. Managers are expected to keep a meaningful stake after closing.
The firm is investing from Council Capital IV, a $200 million fund closed in November 2020. What sets it apart is a CEO Council of more than 30 healthcare executives who have put over $140 million into its funds and join portfolio boards. Council publishes no revenue or EBITDA minimum. A smaller company may fit best as an add-on, for example to Opus Medical, which now combines three case management firms Council backed.

Greymont’s take
How Council Capital fits a seller
Council suits founders of healthcare services or health tech companies who want a specialist investor rather than a generalist, and who value board-level help as much as the money. A deal usually leaves the founder with a real stake and often in charge: MedicalServiceQuotes.com's founder stayed on as CEO after the April 2026 acquisition. Council also seats CEO Council members on boards, as it did at OccMD and Advanced Care Partners, which can open doors to payers and health systems.
Council is still investing from a fund it closed in 2020 and has sold two companies in the past year, so an owner should ask how much time is left in the fund and when the firm expects to sell. Owners outside healthcare will not fit.
Questions owners ask
Does Council Capital invest outside healthcare?
No. Every company in its portfolio is a healthcare business, and the firm calls itself healthcare-focused. It sorts its holdings into technology and tech-enabled companies, provider services and outsourced services.
How big does a company need to be for Council Capital?
Its home page targets growing, EBITDA-positive companies with enterprise value of up to $100 million. Its 2024 deal releases describe the range as $10 million to $100 million of enterprise value.
Does the founder stay involved after Council invests?
Usually. Council looks for meaningful management ownership after closing, and when it bought MedicalServiceQuotes.com in April 2026, founder Kent Morgan stayed on to lead the company in Castle Rock, Colorado.
What is Council Capital's CEO Council?
It is a group of more than 30 current and former healthcare executives who advise Council's companies and serve on their boards. Members have personally invested more than $140 million in Council's funds.
